Anything progressives try to do in order to show force of power will just backfire on them and hurt the Dems as a whole.

The country is not progressive. Its center right or center left depending on the times. Manchin is more representative of that then progressives. While I disagree with some of his stances, if you go toward more or a Manchin compromise then you reach broader consensus across the country. If you just go progressives only then you alienate alot of people. Sure, you may get your progressives wish list but will it work in the midterms? Probably not because GOP are better at messaging and demonizing. Plus voters are gullible and stupid.

Ideally you'd want to be somewhere in the middle between Manchin and progressives.

I actually think the progressives have had a disastrous Congress, along with the rest of the Dems. I wasn’t down with Force the Vote, but they have offered no strategy to counter the Manchin-types. They haven’t even held Biden to the progressive-ish things he ran on like public option on the ACA or the George Floyd Act.

As opposed to the really smart and savy looking, “let’s find common ground with fascists and obstructionists” politics you see currently succeeding.

I’d rather this nation have a strong social safety net and we lift people out of poverty and employ everyone with salaries that leave them comfortable. I’d also rather we provide full healthcare, actually tax wealthy people and corporations and get them out of influencing policy and work toward a society where we don’t need police and prisons. I also think we only need a military budget that’s at most 10% of our budget and the rest of that money can go to making sure we have good air to breathe and boosting other nations so we don’t have conflicts and mass undocumented people entering this country. I know that won’t happen tomorrow, but I want to work towards that. I’d want those policies on the table to discuss, versus negotiating with fascists and people who want to destroy government. You favor working with fascists and people who want to destroy government. That’s where we differ.

The window has been shifted so far that voting rights is now deemed a progressive issue. That’s how far gone you and many others are at this point in time.

See i've been saying this shyt since...like 2015 and caught ALL sorts of hell for it...but here we are.

And mind you, I have my progressive favorites but shyt is just not in our/their favor.

The ONE way to fix this is increasing the size of the House of Representatives so we get more seats available to run with more local apportionments. Can't elect fukking "DSA" members when the average district size is 750K people

I’m not even sure what Manchin can say. Biden agreed to the deal. Republicans agreed to the deal. A separate reconciliation bill has nothing to do with republicans. If they drop out of this deal there should be no attempt to revive bipartisan efforts and ALL of the republicans’ parts of the deal should be erased.

Rob Portman (Republican send from Ohio) saying he always assumed democrats would do reconciliation after a bipartisan deal so he’s fine with it. Really torpedos the messaging McConnell is trying to push.

Reconciliation has nothing to do with republicans. If they drop out this deal who cares. Just means Biden gets (nearly) everything he wants, vs some of what he wants.
