Lets be 100, the GOP and Democrats do not agree with a fair and progressive tax on the wealthy.

The debt ceiling is a completely made-up rule because neither party wants to tax the wealthy and big corporations what they are supposed to, so they instead put these things on credit and make everyone else pay for it.

The debt ceiling itself was put in place to prevent runaway war spending (via T-bills) during WW 1 or 2. Now it's just in place, as you alluded, to start some fukkery.

They're still dikking around with this default.

I n a way even though I would get hurt I low-key want a debt default so maybe some of these blind white folk can see Republicans don't give a shyt when they don't get their social security and can't pay rent.

But who am I kidding as long as the repubtards keep the "woke" war going then it will distract them.

Side note being woke used to mean having knowledge of self...being smart...typically pro black now look at it :francis:

It wouldn't work anyway.

The House passed a bill already, so the Democrats are going to be seen as the one responsible for the default if talks fall through.

But Biden's already signaling he's going to cave to the Republican demands, so it's all moot anyway.

If he caves to their demands, his re-election campaign will take a hit. He either invokes the 14th, or it’s a lose/lose.

Biden is not doing that, and it wouldn't work anyway.
Actually it would

GAZETTE: Could Congress argue that by ignoring the debt ceiling President Biden is usurping its “power of the purse”?

TRIBE: Not easily. He isn’t threatening to spend money that Congress hasn’t authorized and appropriated the way Secretary of Health and Human Services [Sylvia Mathews] Burwell did in 2015 with respect to the Affordable Care Act, leading the House of Representatives to sue her in a case that today would clearly require both the House and the Senate to join as plaintiffs because the Supreme Court in 2019 held, in a case brought by the Virginia House of Delegates, that a single House of a bicameral legislature “lacks capacity to assert interests belonging to the legislature as a whole.”

Obviously, today’s Senate wouldn’t join the House in suing President Biden but, if it would, the claim would have to be not that he’s spending money without congressional authorization but that he’s letting the Treasury Department borrow money Congress hasn’t authorized it to borrow under the power that Article I, Section 8, Clause 2 gives Congress to “borrow Money on the credit of the United States.” And such a suit would put any court in a terrible bind because it would have to choose among options none of which would leave all the laws of the U.S. intact.

Either the laws creating duties to individuals and corporations to whom the U.S. has a debt would be abrogated, in violation of the 14th Amendment, or the law capping what Treasury can borrow would be abrogated, in violation of that one law. A presidential choice to abrogate that one law instead of all the others — and the Constitution to boot — would be hard for any court to overturn.

Biden is actively choosing to harm Americans in the lower class over just raising taxes on the rich and corporations or doing the right thing and using the 14th amendment. This kills any good will he has at least for me. He can go fukk himself as far as I'm concerned for choosing to negotiate with people who are literally terrorists over protecting the American people.

He doesn't give a fukk about Americans and would rather be friends with the literal enemy of the state. fukk him and every other centrist democrat that hates the average American. Hell fukk centrists everywhere. fukking garbage humans, nothing but a bunch of cowards.

I thought that was the filibuster. :ohhh:

It was about the Filibuster, but there were a number of other things in that bill and Manchin and Sinema wouldn't have supported raising the ceiling any way and their public comments support that

Now, it’s worth emphasizing that Congress shouldn’t have to rely on yet another end run around the filibuster to accomplish something of value. Lawmakers should be able, as Ryan Grim wrote on Wednesday, to abide by the closest thing to a midterm mandate and codify Roe v. Wade. They should be able to reinforce the right to same-sex marriage, whether Republicans agree to support it or not. But this would require tossing out the filibuster, and Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) have said time and again that they are not interested in doing so.

Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema saved the filibuster and cut down President Joe Biden’s agenda, delighting Republicans. Now they’re breaking with Democrats on the debt limit, and Republicans hope they keep it coming.

If it comes down to him and Trump in 2024 will you vote for Biden despite how you feel on this issue?

I have no idea where you're going to take this and I'm just not going to participate :comeon:

At some point the disingenuous conversations that happen on here get old.
