Because Obama was a young, talented speaker, extremely charismatic & influential President who could get people to vote. Plus his campaign effectively disqualified Romney with good messenging.

Biden is a old, boring President that isn't a good speaker, doesn't motivate people, don't have a real voter base and don't thrive in big campaign events with crowds because he has zero charisma and campaign appeal.
