James Carville Defends Manchin: People ‘B*tching’ About Him Can't See ‘Political Reality’

Remember a couple weeks ago when HL was praising this geriatric dumb b*stard? :francis:
There was nothing wrong with what he said in the article.
James Carville said:
Look, the child tax credit is extraordinary. We’ve reduced child poverty in this country by 40 percent. It’s unbelievable. And I just keep trying and trying to win elections because this thing is enormously successful. But I’ll just keep saying it: If we don’t have Sen. Manchin, we’re going to have somebody really, really, really extreme in his seat.

Look, I’m a liberal Democrat. Always have been. But some of these people bytching about Manchin can’t see political reality straight. Six percent of adults in this country identify as “progressive.” Only 11 or 12 percent of Democrats identify as progressive. So let’s just meet in the middle and say something like 7 or 8 percent of the country agrees with the progressive left. This ain’t a goddamn debate anymore. Someone like Manchin is closer to the mainstream than a lot of these people think, and pretending like he isn’t won’t help the cause.
However...

The political reality is, Joe Manchin far more likely lose a re-election bid in 2024 than win. He won a close election in the midterms, now, with tighter margins, he will have to answer to MAGA as someone who [correctly] voted to impeach their god twice.

At some point, giving the Democrats a narrow majority has to translate into more than appointments and reconciliation bills. Electoral reforms seems like that point to me and Carville never answered the question about the filibuster. I blame the interviewer for that though.

Therein lies the underlying problem, policies and legislation no longer follow the 2-party mindset centrists and conservatives want to maintain. Regardless of what some ones voter registration card identifies them as, favorable policies and legislation are often supported by various groups across the political spectrum. His half-hearted praise of the child tax credit is a great example of that, a "progressive" policy that was welcomed by progressives, moderates, independents, and conservatives , et. al.

When legislation/policy is good, its just legislation/policy; we never see a tag put on it until someone wants to challenge it, then it becomes "progressive" or "conservative".

Doesn't matter what half assed estimates pundits or Manchin himself wants to try and assign to the party breakdown, he is circumventing the will of the very people he serves in WV. A place where I'm certain there aren't a lot of "self identifying progressives".

Shots fired by the NYTimes.

Happy Sunday.

This is why NYTimes is straight:trash:

So Democrats take money from wealthy donors while supposedly campaigning campaign reform. I'm shocked, really shocked. Does it mean it affects the way they vote on legislation too? Can't wait to find out 10 years from now. Great journalism:wow:

Oh BTW during trumps term he had the IRS withhold the federal tax returns of those Americans who defaulted on their student loans… 4 years straight folks federal tax returns was getting snatched…

Guess what… Since Biden put a freeze on student loan payments and payments on defaulted loans Americans who got federal tax returns will get them..
