The new deal was passed by congress. No presidential administration has every trained, equipped of employed disenfranchised workers. If it was to be done today it would have to be done by congress. Obama himself has advocated these types of actions. Congress needs to enact them.

Was the stimulus not passed by Congress? Repeal of DADT? Obamacare?

Were these things not pushed by Obama directly?

There were programs geared at minorites and minorites received a lot of money. You can argue the effectiveness, but you can't say it wasn't done.

Fair enough, it was done almost exactly the same way under the Bush Administration .

Again you can argue the effectiveness, but he did address the issue. Mcain or Romney would have done NOTHING.

How do you know? Republicans supported this same tax credit.

Obama Signs Bill Reducing Cocaine Sentencing Gap | Breaking News for Black America

Like I said, there is more to be done. But he has addressed this issue more than any passed president, and more than mcain or Romney would have.

In my opinion the strides he's made in education will do more for the black prison rate and communty warzones than fighting to end the war on drugs. People turn to crime for economic reasons. If we can increase economic/educational opportunity then drug use and crime will naturally decrease. And although there is plenty more to be done, I believe Obama has moved us in the correct direction.
i definitely forgot about that one. that is a good step, but as long as black people are policed more aggressively, drug policy across the board must be dealt with. locking people up for cocaine is only hurting the community, it is not helping. as long as we continue on this path, other stats on the black community will continue on the lower path that they are on, which makes these "boot straps" speeches pointless

it's not just people turning to crime, we as a society create more criminals when we try to criminalize their behavior, not just with law but with selective enforcement of the law. white people consume most of the nation's drugs, yet nobody is interested in fighting a war on drugs in their communities. that lack of interest has kept the drug trade in white communities at manageable levels, which in turn means their families, local economies, and schools are not nearly as impacted by it.

we have to take the ability to enforce these laws completely away from the criminal industrial complex in order to improve our communities.

As the president you can't put your full weight behind a bunch of issues at once. He has championed some issues and got them passed. Healthcare reform has been talked about for decades, he got something done, I think he deserves credit for that. Same with student loan reform. Those are two issues that are very important in the black communty. Even more so in my opinion than the other issues you are bringing up.

Just a guess, but judging by history republicans aren't too keen on spending on the middle class

Agree with these post...Its like some poster want Obama to be like

FUCC THIS America ...Im doing this for Black People ...WE TAKING OURS NOW :birdman::violent:

:aicmon:

He's been pushing issues that have a effect or implications on Black ppl

He can't do everything we like and wish....Prison system is fucced up I know
but if you think Obama can just up and change that shyt after DECADES of that shyt ...you got the game fucced up

When some posters on the coli talk about racism, the unfair policies and so on

how do posters of different races greet them???

Either they deny it...or basically go SO what...

What help would it do it Obama acknowledged it...Anybody who thinks that since he didn't acknowledge it..means he doesn't know its out there...is a ass...

but once again he is the president...he has to walk a fine line

BTW, why you lying about those Jay bars. I searched on twitter for them and couldn't find them...I was about to take him out of my top 5 for 24 hours like when that rumor of the hyphenated last name came up
So you actually believed I was serious for 2 seconds? :russ: You deserve to be negged for that.

I can't believe so many people thought those were real lines. What's sad is Jay has fallen off so bad, it's believable that he would call himself "the straight Elton John."

I wonder how people would feel if George W. Bush made this statement to the students at Morehouse College:

"Nobody cares how tough your upbringing was. Nobody cares if you suffered some discrimination. And moreover, you have to remember that whatever you’ve gone through, it pales in comparison to the hardships previous generations endured — and they overcame them. And if they overcame them, you can overcome them, too."

On one hand, it coulld be seen as an inspirational remark. But on the other, should a standing president remind young black people that nobody cares about them? Sure, we know it's true, but I am not sure if a 100% white male could get away the statements that are overlooked from a man who is just 50% white.

Also, it seems to say, "Look, stop complaining about racism, it's not going to get any better." But does the president say these same things to gay men who speak up about homophobia or women who speak about sexual assault? :ohlawd: Please inform me if this is the case.

Imagine that....."Nobody cares if you were molested by your dad. Nobody cares if you were raped by your boyfriend. Women have been getting raped and beaten for centuries and they endured. If they can overcome their assaults, then you can overcome yours too." :ohlawd:

How would that work for a presidential commencement address at a women's college? Please tell me where I'm wrong.

The truth of the matter is that no one cares. However anyone feels about that truth is on them.
