I think that's what made hit em up such a classic,he took the beat and flipped the chorus :mindblown:

Regarding the beat, the original is from Dennis Edwards - don't look any further .. For those that don't know. Classic track:noah:

All this biting from jay,I think it is borderline disrespectful tho :manny:

Yeah that soul sample was perfect. Pac flipped it dope. But actually Rakim was the 1st to use the baseline. NaS even dissed Jay over that baseline. But "Gettin Money" remix was Classic just like the original. Pac had to know at that time cause it was a huge hit song. So that's why he immulated Big's flow even though he was dissing him cause made people loved the "Playa's Anthem" as well as "Get Money".

Hov is close. Nas is closer just because he predates B.I.G and B.I.G even said Nas was the only rapper he was scared to rhyme after. He was a Nas fan.

Hov will go down as alot of peoples favorite, but he doesn't have the visual depth B.I.G had with the stories etc.

Jay is nice, don't get me wrong but B.I.G was another level.

Had the streets and the chicks.

With Jay Z using lyrics from this song on "Picasso Baby" It crazy to look back how many people used lyrics from this Biggie Freestyle. "Real N!ggas (Westcoast Freestyle)" where Biggie showed he can rip any beat, anywhere even on the west has come to be one of his most quoted verses. NaS, KanYe have both used lyrics from those verses. Jay Z has now sampled these verses multiple times. But yesterday I was bumping this Jadakiss Classic and remember that he used rhymes from this verse too:

"Chillen sittin on about half a million, with all my jewelry, all my guns, all my millions. Next two years I should see about a billion, all for the love of Drug Dealing" - Biggie

""Chillen sittin on about half a million, with all my jewelry, all my guns, all my millions. Next two years I should see about a billion, all for the love of Drug Dealing" - Jadakiss

With the whole Kendrick "Control Verse" Saga one interesting fact about the whole saga is that Biggie seemed to be the catalyst to New York reacting the way it did. When Kendrick implied that he was the new Biggie or "King of New Yolk" as he said artfully it seems to bring back old wounds for New Yorkers.

The King wasn't dethroned. The King didn't get his spot taken. He was murdered out West at that so for a Compton rapper to even think he can touch that crown is blasphemous to New York Hip Hop Fans and to many the crown went with Big. Here is a series of Biggie References in the entire Control Saga:

Kendrick: "I'm Makaveli's Offspring/The King of New York/King of the Coast/ with one hand I juggle them both"

Big Sean: I grew up to Em, B.I.G and Pac bytch and got ruined./So until I get the same crib B.I.G. had in that Juicy vid B!tch I can't motherf@ckin stop movin"

Astro: "No matter how much good music you drop/you can't know the legacy of the B.I.G.'s and Jay's"

Papoose: Lil Sean, Big Sean, let me see I.D./Before you rap why you always say B.I.G., you ain't Biggie, you could D.I.E" "He thought it was all good cause he listened to Juicy, he should of heard "Who Shot Ya" cause we bang toolies"

Cassidy: "They should of never gave the Mic to me. You would think BIG, Big Pun and Big L was ghostwriting for me"

Joe Budden: "I'm on my shyt today, You the King of New York? You might as well spit on Biggie's Grave, I couldn't let this slip away" "This is for B.I.G., Suicidal Thoughts, Coogi Printed"

Ransom: I'm the extension of Christopher Rios and Christopher Wallace, Ya'll spitting garbage, I'm quick to demolish"

Graph: "The King of New York ain't talking cause after Big died that crown was buried in his Coffin" "I'm Biggie in Hyponotize steering his V12 backwards"

Fred Da Godson: "Big's casket rolled through Brooklyn, Pun's in the X, they named Big so show a little respect"

Mysonne: "I'm Biggie, Jay Z and NaS, they going to say I'm crazy but Biggie gave me these bars"

Mickey Factz: "There ain't no King of New York Biggie Gone Christohper Wallace"

Donny Goines: "King of New York, you can have that, so go dig a grave next to Biggie, Take a nap nap"

Raekwon: "N!ggaz know he ain't not King of New York, he's feeling his Dyck. To me Big is the only King of New York. He really started from the bottom and mastered this. He didn't know what he was saying when he said it. Biggie is a Rap Egyptian N!gga, Legendary"

Amazing how one line referencing Biggie alias and title "King of New York" which he adopted from Christopher Walken character in the Classic film "King of New York" brought out this many references. That shows you the respect Big's peers have for him and his influence is still being felt. Reakwon who once made "Shark B!ters" even admitted Big was the best. Biggie is not just a Hip Hop Legend and Icon but he's a New York Legend and Icon:

Biggie-Twin-Towers-image-Chi-Modu.png

*"Scarface, King of New York, I Wanna Be It"
*This goes out to those that choose to use disrespect views on the King of NY
*Ain't no other Kings in this Rap Thing they siblings, nothing but my childern, one shot they disappearing

Young Money adds to the club on their recent releases and Method Man had a Biggie bite on the "Tical 2000" album:

Biggie: "Hoe's peepee when they see me, Navajoes creep me in their teepee" (One More Chance Remix 94')
Lil Wayne: "Hoe's Creep me in their Teepee" (Levels Dedication 5 13')

Biggie: "And if you don't know, now you know" (Juicy 94')
Drake: "You ain't know, now you know now" (Worst Behavoir Nothing Was the Same 13')

Biggie: "I'm like B!tch you better talk to him, before this fifth put a spark to him" (I Got A Story To Tell 97')
Method Man: "Talk to him, before my brother put a spark through him" (Break Ups to Make Ups 99')

You do realize "Pray and Pray for my Downfall" is actually a Run DMC Lyric. Instead of stratching in DMC's voice. Biggie and Puff actually had DMC come back into the Studio and redo his rhymes. Here's the original song:

:leon:would make sense if big mentioned my downfall anywhere in the song and not DMC

I think it's honorable for rappers to repeat the GOAT lines, because that's the culture way of keeping the history alive for the new generation to learn:salute:

But, they way camel did it was vulgar:scusthov:

is this picture from the actual recording session and or in 96? (assuming my downfall was recorded then)
Big looks so young in this and its shocking because the music he made on say Life After Death was so mature looking back. Nas. Pac. Outkast were what 20 and made music for all demographics. I want to say Reasonable Doubt too but Jay was 26 lol. Anyway you cant say the same about tyga and Rack City.

“It was ahead of its time. He rapped from a perspective of someone who lived a full life. He rapped from a perspective of someone looking ahead, someone who was looking to move on from one phase to another. It was a double album which was a bold move. It also showed that he was an artist of substance, so much that one album would not be enough. He’s honestly one of the greatest to ever do it.”

Outside of their little subliminal battle, NaS has always given B.I.G. props. He even said their battle wasn't serious. As for the Run DMC/Biggie photo. Honestly that looks like Young Biggie like 93 before "Ready To Die" era. But it very may well be Junior Mafia Era Biggie in 95 when he started to record "Life After Death". DMC stated that the whole group always loved Biggie which is why he was honored to be on "Life After Death".

The Saga Continues on Rick Ross new album "Mastermind", he not only samples the same beat but he takes the flow from Biggie's Classic Album Closer "Your Nobody Till Somebody Kills U" on the track "Nobody" which was produced by Diddy (Who has no shame in sadly redoing Biggie Classics):
