I know a lot of you guys are big film buffs and take great pride in your collections but with the growing popularity of streaming services and streaming devices do you believe that the age of physical media is almost at an end?

Your thoughts?

Never :eeh:
I mean eventually

With data caps and none widespread broadband. It will be a while before the majority of the US gets the proper connections for all digital

Also as long as there is a market (dudes like me and @HHR and @flyry ) who love collecting movies there will always be physical media. It may be harder to find like vinyl stores and become more niche but it will exists. Especially when it comes to film restoration and trying to preserve older flicks. They're doing the right thing now by putting digital downloads with new releases.

Never. Well, at least not for a long, long time.

Digital media has permanently taken over the rental market, but I don't think we're even close to the ownership market being significantly impacted.

prob will die with the millennials. I don't see the new generation having any use for it.

It may end up being UHD. I know EON is working on 4K versions of the Bond flicks. Can our TV screens deal with that though or will we need higher resolutions?

I dunno, there was a time when people wanted to "own" music also but once technology made it so that they didn't have to... the sales of CD's dropped astronomically. A lot of people are perfectly fine either downloading mp3's or streaming through spotify.

Once we get to the point where basically every movie ever is available to stream and/or download, I can't imagine a lot of people are gonna be feel compelled to shell out bucks for a plastic case and some extra features. Like others are saying it's gonna be something strictly for the collectors.

Fukk that I'm a millennial. I will plant my flag in the sand and stand up for my freedom to choose physical media. It's about a man's right to choose. It's about us not landing on Plymouth Rock but Plymouth Rock landing on a man named Abraham Lincoln and four minutes and seven seconds ago, I decided to rock with physical media and as God is my witness, I will never go hungry again!

It also depends on the price. Physical media is often, not always, cheaper than the digital download in order to compete or most of the time it's the same. You're right about music tho, kids would rather steam but fukk that I want to own my music. I ain't with that streaming shyt

The last physical CD I got was in 09 I think, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx pt 2 but the only reason I haven't copped anything physical is because I ran out of room. But I still pay for the shyt I listen to and watch. I get my music through iTunes and still cop movies if I really want to add it to the collection. Just copped the Scream 5 Film set over the weekend for $10. That's Scream 1-3, plus two retrospectives on the series for $10..couldn't be mad at it:manny:

Were gonna need them 4k tvs to take full advantage breh :sadcam:

I haven't bought a cd in 5 years.
I can see why people like digital flicks though they do look almost as good and you can get em a month sooner and companies been skimming on the special features lately anyway.

But I will continue to buy physical of movies I love and hope they have the ultraviolet code for when im not home

I dont rock with digital books I like having those in hand
