That's my point; people put weight to the opinion of these journalists when it's convenient. But the kicker is the narrative around here is that Drake fans aren't "real" hip hop fans so it shouldn't surprise anyone they use these publications to prop up Drake. But "real" hip hop fans supposedly loathe these magazines but use the opinion of those writers to validate their own beliefs. You can't have it both ways.

People put weight on whatever around here when it's convenient. Which is :manny: to me but people gotta accept when the pendulum swings back at them.

I'm pretty indifferent to all those publications but if somebody used Fader to defend Drake....and Fader turns on Drake....I'm hanging them with that. Totally independent of my opinion. Because I'm not the one that validated Fader, they did.

Hell, never mind Drake. Apply that to anything. You (not saying you, I mean in general) can't pick and choose when something matters. It either does or it doesn't, across the board. Given the attention these publications receive from The Coli, they do seem to matter.

Fred.

Complex UK | Making Culture Pop
This.

Did I already quote this?

This is why this is a big deal! @Cynic

WE're overrepresented as the subjects of these magazines, yet underrepresented as members of the actual staff of these publications, how is that not a problem of some sort and how is that not a big deal? Black music and culture has been infiltrated by the same good ole boys club that barred black people out of the game in the first place. How is that not terrible irony?

I'd have to create a linkedin account to really go in, but alot of people's pictures ain't posted.

Do y'all really want me to go in and find facebook accounts and verifiy each name of each member of the staff with pictures?

I think it wouldn't make a bigger difference honestly and it would probably be the same result.

It's not poor reasoning....It's fact. I have friends who are writers.....they pitch their ideas to different publications. They may not always write for one publication but will move around based on who takes their pitch, who comes to them and says do this interview/write this story, etc.
They're still in the minority compared to whites and others.

The issue is these publications only see black people as a source of entertainment.

Fact is if you're not a rapper, singer, actor, producer/beatmaker etc. you're pretty much worthless to them.
I had to revisit this quote which needs more daps and is indicative of a very troubling mentality that seperates regular black men and women from black celebrities, entertainers, athletes, etc.

Look at the difference between black student athletes in college and black college students that don't play sports by faculty, staff, and the student body. Black student athletes are treated like royalty, get all the girls, get kickbacks and green cards for schoolwork etc. While black college students are treated like they're invisible.

The same goes for black pro athletes, entertainers, actors, actresses, producers, djs, rappers. They're seen in a different light than regulard black person. Heaven forbid you're a regular black person, society sees no value in you at all. An object of scorn, hatred, and resentment by society. Even worse is to be black and poor...to which by them you're a waste of tax dollars and worthy of being killed by police and blamed for your own death.

It all stems back to slavery. Where the house negroes and court jesters were rewarded. The strongest were bred and chosen as favorites, and the educated and weak slaves were quickly killed off.

Yeah. Cause without doing so, you're being kinda lazy.

Exec boards are one thing...people collecting a cheque from being in the building is completely different.

Exactly. Hiphop, which was birthed in the Black streets, which was only supposed to be a fad, which isn't even considered music by some, which doesn't even require talent by others, is begging for validation from people who don't even appreciate the artforms in Hiphop. Not the Hiphop in the streets, but these mainstream lames who are frauds. fukk the grammys. Kendrick is a dumbass for even giving credence to that shyt.
