How long do you think Blu Ray's will last before we replace them with something else?

This is why ima chill out with buying so many Blu rays... it’s eventually gonna turn into shyt like DVDs. 8-10 years from now it’s gonna be about that 8K life.

Its y I only buy best of the best movies and anime
Something I hold in high regard and has replay value for me no questions asked

Nah Blu Ray us the last disc based format we will have. Going to be all digital after this. Maybe another decade, could be longer. 4K Blu Ray is all the rage now. Gonna pick up that Sony 4k Blu Ray player to go with my 4k HDR tv. Each time a new resolution comes out they will just add an extra layer to the Blu Ray disc and only the newest hardware can run it. You can't put 4k Blu Ray into a regular Blu Ray player for example. The next step is 8k. Youll need to purchase a new Blu Ray player for that. And another when we move to 16k. The human eye can't see beyond 16kso hopefully that's where it will stop :francis:

I don't think 8K will be a disc format if we ever get there.

4K DI's are just barely becoming somewhat of the norm.

There's about zero movies that will take advantage of 8K.

Guardians 2 was the first movie filmed in 8k and is the only one to my knowledge.

Some say 70mm films may be closer to 8k or even higher but that's movies filmed in the 50s and 60s mainly.

I own about 25 4K discs , but for movies I like and don't necessarily love sometimes I cop UHD digital

Can't even say 4K DIs are the norm yet. Infinity War has a 2K DI.

Just not in this country more so in japan since they tend to be always ahead of the curve

The Olympics were shot in 8k and so was the Superbowl :francis:. 8k will be a slow gradual uptake like 4k was and 1080p before that.

Most CGI heavy movies are going 2k DIs, but 4K DI's definitely are a lot more common than they were say 2 years ago.

Yea i was talking more movie wise.

TV wise I'll believe it when I see it in this country. We still have major networks only broadcasting in 720P. The superbowl was filmed in 4k and 8k and still only broadcast 720. Super Bowl LI to be Shot in Stunning 4K and 8K With 360 Degree Views -

This country is so ass backwards tech wise. I see 8K being adopted moreso on Netflix and Amazon kind of like most 4k shows right now are on there.

I'm conflicted to whether or not there will be an 8k disc format. 4K has been adopted better than expected but the way things are going towards streaming..

As soon as the powers that be let go of the strangle hold they have on 4k BD. We might see some indie productions on the format. Maybe some gonzo 60 fps porn. Until then it's regular bluray for us, I've see factory sealed BD's going for $2 on some sites.

8K video on quad layer blu-ray is the ultimate end goal, then we die and leave it to the millennials and their offspring.
