Physically its one thing to continue playing. Another huge factor is what would he be going through mentally. Kobe himself said that as soon as he couldnt compete at the highest level the way he wanted to compete he'd leave. Didnt wanna hang around and just be a guy in the league. paraphrasing but i thinks thats what he was trying to convey.

kobe tore his achilles though and just zapped him
only thing as you get older risk of injury increases look at karl malone, dude played 19 and a half years without a injury until he suffered one that ultimately ended his career

Father Time is undefeated. It’s not just the seasons played, you have to include the deep playoff runs. The way this season shook out, everything worked perfectly for an old player trying to turn up for a playoff run.

And he avoided seeing any serious comp at his position

So... 2 more seasons as a dominant starter and then we’ll see how much he wants to play a reduced role.

Or maybe they’ll stay in the bubble and he plays til he’s 50.

load management :yeshrug:

but you are correct, imagine lebron as a sixth man playing like 20 mpg

I believe LeBron will play 4 more seasons and become the first 40k/10k/10k player.....LA will win 4 out of the next 5 championships(including this seasons)

* 40,000 pts
* 10,000 rbs
* 10,000 asst
* 7 championships
* 5 finals mvps( AD wins 2 finals mvps)

I'm not wishing it on him at all but I think an injury is going to stop him.. Everyone breaks down eventually
Yeah once you reach a certain age a freak injury is pretty likely and can still be chalked up to father time.

It's like the Chris Rock joke about how any death for an old person is natural causes. Hit by a bus? Too slow crossing the street, didn't see the buss out your peripheral vision, and couldn't hear the horn honking :pachaha:

A friend of mine (not a LBJ stan)

....

Stopped reading right here.

You actually think we're dumb enough to believe you would be friends with someone who isn't a lebron stan? :mjlol:

Anyway, hard to guess the years but I can tell you this....he should be able to retire after draymond green for sure.

barring injury issues.. based off his passing and size alone, he could be a top PG for years to come if he wants to, even if his ability to get to the basket starts to dwindle.

You figure it would have to. He could probably even rehab and come back from an injury....but would he even want to? He might just say, "fukk it, that's enough of that."

Its up to him/Savannah. He probably wants to crush as many records as possible and defy age but we know he has other interests.
I was thinking that but at the same time, I think his business empire/charitable interests and all that are better off run by other people. He's seemed really smart about putting folk who actually know what they're doing in charge of those things and only offering input as he has it, and that's why they're so successful. Ideally he'd probably maintain the same amount of involvement he has now rather than trying to take over shyt he don't have expertise in.

Then again, maybe he'd start something entirely new, go the camps route or get into management.

yeah right, and Mike Smrek led the 1988 Lakers to a ring :mjlol:

It was a balanced team, but Duncan was still probably the best player on it throughout the season and playoffs. Leonard happened to be the best for a 5 game period in the finals.

He can play till about 40. Even if he declines he can still average 20. He would be like Kobe and Jordan in that they always performed at a high level. Never a steep drop off where you have to be a role player.

The question is as a GM how do you evaluate in terms of contract? HIs next contract should be 1 year 40 million. Im not giving a 37 year old a 4 year deal.

the way he takes care of his body, maybe until 42 or 43 and thats at a high level. Cause his recovery is wild too. Last year with the groin it felt like the start of the decline and it wasnt. So I dont know. I wouldnt be surprised if he played into his 40s. Hes definetly gonna try and play for rings.

But theres a high probablity hes gonna win his 5th ring next season after his 4th now. I dont know how the new season is gonna be scheduled but I dont know theres any real threat for next year with a short offseason of transactions. If at 36 hes on ring number 5, hes gonna get super close to eclipsing 6 whch is what I think he wants If he gets it done at 40 or younger, he may peace out at 40. But if hes still in good shape, I could see him playing for a couple of years in his 40s back in Cleveland to close it out.
