K mart shoul have been out of biz in the early 2000s.

They have locations in PRIME nyc traffic areas. Like 34th attached to penn station. If you walk inside it’s like a portal to 1982. Only reason I could image these locations belong open still is they got 30 year leases and locked into rent prices from the 90s.

They just opened a target on 34 so it’s reslly curtains.
There's also a K Mart in the East Village not too far from where NYU is at. I just assumed that particular K Mart eats good off broke NYC students buying random cheap items, etc:yeshrug:

Alot of execs have no idea how to innovate at these companies. They are just highly paid managers of an already rolling machine. Once things changed and the internet and amazon became a thing, they didn't know how to adapt. Even with decades of infrastructure already in place.

Use to live down the street from the one in Chillum, MD off Riggs rd and yeah that place is straight up time capsule..Was just around there visiting a friend, apparently there home and garden section is still decent and cheaper option than somewhere like Home Depot for that area..

And ironically the Pizza Hut in front of it is still open as well as that random cheap shoe store, I was sitting there like gottdamn this area hasn’t changed at all:russ:

If I remember correctly the rise of target in the late 90s-00s was the knife to its back...
