If we're just talking weight loss and getting in shape, than cardio is a lot less important than your diet. You can do tons of cardio and not lose much if you're not eating right and running at a calorie deficit.

If we're talking general advice for healthy living, then cardio is essential. You don't need to be running 5Ks every morning, or be in the pool like Michael Phelps though. Throw in 30 minutes of some sort of cardio everyday and you'll be helping your heart, among other things.

It's difficult to find cardio you can enjoy though, especially if you don't like playing sports. I hate running just to run.
Yea thats the tough thing. I would say ride a bike, but Americans HATE bikers, and its pretty dangerous on surface streets. Best bet, if you can find + afford pool access, swim

Is a recumbent bike good for cardio?

I bought a recumbent bike because jogging has my left me knee feeling like crap they next day. When I'm on the recumbent bike I can go on for a long time on the highest tension for about an hour without feeling any pain or wiped out. When I jog I feel like calling quits after 15 minutes, weezing and hurting all over :flabbynsick:

But on the bike I expel a lot of sweat and the only burns (the feel good burn) is in my legs and no knee pain.

kinda important. i do wakeboarding aside from lifting and go for walks, other than that IDGAF, you won't see my ass on a treadmill unless I need to get my endurance up for something.

Cardio leads to healthier and and more efficient bloodflow, heart, and lung function, which leads to better performance of ALL physical activity including weight lifting... There really is no downside to safetly performing cardio workouts 3 times a week...

I use to swim alot but now mostly run on the treadmill but its now winter out here and will go back to the swim routine for my daily cardio.

HIIT is good too if you trying to cut down.
