SMDH.... And these are the same mofos that be selling uninformed people dreams thinking that an ab roller alone will give a 400lb fat bytch a beach body..

Weightlifting does help build muscle to help burn fat better but it is counterproductive to people that are excessively overweight because.... IT ADDS WEIGHT TO AN ALREADY HEAVY BODY THEREFORE MAKING THE HEART HAVE TO WORK HARDER TO PUMP BLOOD TO THE REST OF THE BODY. THE EASIER THE HEART CAN PUMP BLOOD TO THE REST OF THE BODY, THE LONGER A PERSON CAN WORKOUT. THE FINAL RESULT IS WEIGHT LOSS THAT PUTS LESS STRESS ON THE HEART TO PUMP THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD NEEDED, WHETHER FOR A WORKOUT OR DAILY LIVING...

You should be banned from posting in the Gym forum and I hope no one ever certifies you to become a physician...

I understand what you are saying, but its deeper than that. With the scenario you describe above the fatty will actually burn more weight in fat than weight gained in muscle. Especially if they are eating for weight loss. With the ratio in favor of total weight decrease its very productive.

MMsex.. I mean no disrespect so I'm sorry for lashing out at you... I'm a former athlete who has dealt with extreme fluctuations in weight for my entire life.. I have been some next to 200lbs and I've weighed over 400lbs before and now I'm on the middle on the way down again(hopefully forever this time). While I do respect your authority as a mod, I respectfully disagree with the advice you gave about cardio... Cardio is THE fundamental building block of exercise and health of THE most important organ in the human body(There is no life without the heart but you can be brain dead and still be physically alive). Weightlifting, while it is a great supplemental tool to build a body, it is less necessary than cardio.

i agree partially with what you said

i too was an athlete an high school who gained weight after leaving the sport

and for years i did various types of training inbetween my wrestling years and to the point i had become my heaviest

"weightloss" has zero to do with weightlifting or cardio as ive learned...it has everything to do with taking in less calories than you expend

exercise in general is just a means to that end, but unfortunately exercise(any kind) isnt accurately measureable calorically without lab equipment. therefore an obese person could run or lift all they want and not lose a pound of fat if not in a consistent deficit.

dietary deficit, as ive found, is the only proven method of weightloss, and lifting in conjunction with a dietary deficit is the most efficient way of ensuring the "weight" lost is fat.

ive written a guide here that shows how i lost 70lbs and kept most of my muscle.

you arent the only one who subscribes to the cardio = fat loss group. but its a fallacy born from athletic training and perpetuated because if fit people say it works then clearly it must be true. yet its only half true

i have various books in the gym directory sticky as well as the guide i used to get to where i am at

as i said before, cardio isnt bad...and in fact does create a deficit its just that number fluctuates wildly amongst different age groups, heights, and starting weights.

Yes... but that would have made for a longer post.. lol.. I actually advocate for people that aren't in such bad shape(like scrawny people trying to bulk up).. They don't need the cardio as much.. What is it worth to a obese/fat person to lift weights then quit because the stress on the heart and body is too much?

:rudy:

I'm proof, I was more shredded with a perfect diet and no cardio then I was when I was heavy on cardio, BTW when I hopped on the treadmill after a while my endurance was higher than ever.

you're a goddamned idiot. You missed the entire part just because you mentioned being shredded :snoop:

This. Only after I permanently altered my diet (what i eat at home, i still go HAM with junk when i go out) did i see significant weight loss and faster training recovery times: I lost 40lbs (18kg) in 7 weeks (starting from March 2011). In fact, if all you want to do is weightloss then there is no need for gym, just buy the right groceries

Cardio worked wonders for me. It wasn't till after cardio that I decided to work on muscle mass. Cardio got me lean and helped with definition.

If your trying to gain muscle then cardio is beneficial but not necessary.

You can build muscle and never do a single second of cardio. It's actually pretty common.

This is true, but your blood pressure will be through the roof, and a heart attack will be on it's way. Weightlifting works your sympathetic nervous system, which is a good thing, but when left unchecked it will slowly kill you by messing up your health because your sympathetic nervous system breaks things down being that it is mostly activated when high stress is experienced, in this case lifting heavy weights..

Cardio helps work your parasympathetic nervous system, which lowers blood pressure, as well as repair what the sympathetic nervous system broke down, as well as oxygenating the body, so you will have more muscle power, not "mirror muscles". Mirror muscles is when someone looks strong, but they aren't considering how big they look.

Just like with anything else, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you just want this swole looking body, but you don't necessarily care for much stamina or your long-term health, then you won't deal with it much, and will instead spend most of your time lifting weights. You want more stamina/endurance, a healthier heart and just to feel much lighter on your feet, you have to get your road work in. Cardio is one of the key elements of a functional body... but not necessarily an aesthetic body if you find another way to cut (mainly through dieting).
