what made you up this?

I see no problems with providing other options than your local public school.

I do think its bullshyt the way they pretty much draw tax dollars from public schools but we got a devise a better plan where we allocate public dollars to the schools more effectively.
I was going to make a thread on charter schools and saw one that already had a foundation for my post available as the coli with its artificial intelligence showed me threads based on keywords :whoo:

Use that feature.

Turning education private shows how much americans have given up on the country and hurts public schools and in the case of black people, the very neighborhoods they're trying to help.

Parents should fight harder to step up their public schools because if you arent performing at a great degree in the charter, they're bouncing your ass outta there. Early, because they cant have a few kids with learning problems fukking up their test averages which effect the parents that spend money to send their kids there. Its a joke.

but still I dont think your point holds true. Just because some white people took over a failing school is going to make white folks move to the hood and lead to gentrification.
Gentrification doesnt happen over night obviously. Kinda like how Bill Clinton opening one office, transformed Harlem in a decade.

it really did. Some of those blocks looked like a war zone.
Yea developments are made with a goal in mind. Take this neighborhood from this to THIS and once the first step is made, all they need from there are police and banks to buy up homes in the surrounding neighborhood that they then sell to cacs to slowly change things in 10 years. Put pressure on black neighbors using the police which causes black home owners to look at their equity and think :manny: mine as well sell. More cacs come in. Then big business and by that time cacs know there wont be any More black people moving in, only out. And its a wrap from there.

Charter schools seem to spring up in areas where white people dont want their kids to go to school with people of another race and or where the neighborhood is so shytty, black people dont want their kids going to school with hooligans. Sadly the black public school will suffer.

if its failing black students there is no logical reason to keep it open, black people need to stop supporting public schools and start supporting charters and vouchers for private schools

charters schools are good because they allow for alternatives to public education and a space to explore educational creativity.

but it's not as simple as charter school=good, public school=bad, because there are great charter schools and there are sh*tty ones... there are great public schools and there are sh*tty ones.

the quality of the staff running the school is far more important than whether it's a charter or a public.

That's an extremely simple-minded (and naive) way of thinking.

There's not going to be a point at any time in the near future where all or most black kids attend charter schools. Most black students (and students in general) are going to attend public schools, so If public schools suck then they need to be fixed. Anything else is just a band-aid and not addressing the real problem. Any stuff about closing down all public schools is just ideological stuff that'll never happen.

That's not even going into the lack of evidence that charter schools are consistently better.

On the flip, charter schools draw hella tax money from public schools, weakening an already weak system. My neighbor (white) is trying to open one because she wouldn't dare send her daughter to an Oakland Public School (which can be great or terrible depending on work ethic) and all she will talk about is "ohhh look i can start this school, get funded by the govt etc to ensure that the children in this upper middle-upper class neighborhood dont have to set foot in an OUSD again". Its fukked too because the neighborhood we live in has arguably the best elementary, middle, and high school in Oakland. But hey, rich people couldnt give a fukk about the community they damage in order to better themselves and their family.

I was the product of a Charter school education in Philly. They've been here since the mid-90s. They are a mixed bag, some good some bad...I see very little difference from traditional schools in my experience. My school wasn't that good...the biggest change was you weren't subject to random acts of violent/disruptive/criminal behavior..the school I came from prior someone got arrested everyday...and quite honestly I could have very easily went down that route, despite being from a relatively stable background by comparison.

Curious to see how my school fairs now...the demo. has changed significantly; 30-40% white now, where it was 95% black before.

My daughter goes to charter school and so will my son
Their standards are definitely not low
Comparing her school to the school my lil sister goes to, she has a much longer day, more homework, more variety of topics and is stricter
U need to maintain certain grades or get kicked out

Charter schools hasten the decline of education in america. And that is the goal of captalism: exploitation
