No one knows a goddamned thing about African American history aside from bullshyt myths. The same line of idiots think every drop of white blood in AAs comes from slave rape. For a very long time it was illegal for any black person under slavery to inherit the name of a white person ever, in fact, most slaves didn't have formal last names at all, but by associating their denomination with the plantation they were bound to, it was one of the very few ways most enslaved blacks had of being able to connect with or identify their families or lineages upon being separated. And on top of that a lot of slaves upon being freed with no name of their own simply chose romanized last names to identify themselves by as a way of assimilating into their new culture and environment. There are a lot more factors as to why blacks in the diaspora have the names they do aside from "slave master last names"

My ancestry results have been "updated"Got my ancestry results a while back, I'm Nigerian
The change is already in process:mudiayfly:
Change that shyt to “Black” or “King” or something. I feel like straight up picking an african name would alienate him from other AAs. Do what you want tho , if it was me I would just pick an english word that conveyed strength and high self esteemUpdate: After doing a dna test, I found out 42% of my dna derives from the Cameroon, Congo and Southern Bantu peoples. So I'm currently researching their cultures and pre slavery history. Also looking at names because I really want to change my last name.
Since making this thread, I've gotten married and now have a 6 month old son and I can't look him in the eyes knowing that his last name belongs to a man that hated him.
