You live with it....an ex of mine once called me during an argument "the daughter of slave parents" this was after we had already broken up, thankfully. Name aside, I'm proud of my Black heritage, the values etc that were instilled in me growing up is priceless.

Stop using fake fallacies in attempts to be rebellious and accept your heritage to be an American 1. But don't settle for that, use what you have which is a citizenship to change the circumstances of yourself and others. A name change is a nice fukk you in regards to the establishment. But its not really a game changer in the main scale of things..........and to be honest unless you plain on doing something grand with your name change its kind of pompous to change to an "African" name when your heritage while distant African is that of America...........:yeshrug:

Wtf do you think you are with your ignorant statement. You sound like a hater tbh....just because we (Black Americans) were born here after our ancestors were kidnapped to this country not too long, does not make us distant from Africa...slavery ended 200 hundred years ago...

Was gonna get my family crest tattooed on me a few years ago, google searched my last name and family crest, realized I was Scottish :krs:

Then I thought about it and I was like nah that's the last name of a slave owner :damn:

At this point it's whatever though, to be fair I have Creole roots and many of my family members have those last names so maybe that would be more appropriate, but at this point it is what it is.. wouldn't even know where to start tracking my shyt

I don't have a slave master's name. I have one of the "blackest" names in the country which historically came from blacks choosing it on their own. Do your history brehs.

As much I used to hate getting teased for my Nigerian surname as a child, I'm proud of it now. Especially because my upbringing was Jamaican so I literally benefitted from having both cultures.

Were you adopted?
