My last name has roots in Africa and Europe. You on your own, cuz..
My Dad is an Ewe and my last name is from Ghana. Very unique. Everyone with it Im immediately related to. The Ewe people acknowledge and feel guilty in their participation in the slave trade to the extent that they have made the acestors of slaves to be dieties as well.
I understand why some would want to change their name to an African one once they find out their results. I also, dont think AAs should be ashamed of being descendent of slaves. The fact that you exist despite all the slaves that died by violence and sickness, etc and for your line to have survived to make you is something truly amazing.

We are our own tribe now! It's impossible to know with great accuracy our history so it's pointless to possibly erroneously imitate what we don't know.

We really walking round outchea with last names that don't belong to us. I read a long time ago that freed slaves would often change their last names to colors like Black, Blue, etc to remove themselves from the heritage of their previous slave owners.
Remember, slave owners wold completely strip slaves of their identity but now we can use the technology to trace back our heritage. We should take advantage of this. If you don't know where you came from, you have no future; you will always be living a lie.
Purify yourselves from the stains of slavery. This country is already full of constant reminders of it's demonic past. Let us not carry around the burden in our own names.
