No.

People who claim books take up too much space are dense. We don't have a book storage problem. We humans are lazy and will rationalize being lazy. Just know the Wealthy know the benefits of real, physical things and they will take them from you, in order to hoard them.

Have fun with your mp3 files that you don't own, vitamin fountains, and Old Navy clothing.
hehehehe...

It's not the book that's important...It's the information...The information could be written on toilet paper and it will still be important...Even when you by a physical copy of the book, you DON'T own the information, only the worthless pieces of paper it was written...

Try using the information in one of your books, without giving proper credit, and see how quickly you will get sued for violating copyright and labelled a plagiarist...Once somebody gets wind of it...

Books are useless, as long as you have the information in some form or other, then you are empowered...

Thus, having all my books on a hard drive is no different than have racks full books, in fact, a hard drive saves space..And you can take the information all around the world...

People really trying to argue that the medium in which you put information doesn't matter? :stopitslime:

People love enslaving themselves. I'm going to be the dude in 1984 who brokedown and just laughed hysterically because he realized how fukking dumb 90% of you are and why the 1% will continue to prosper:wow:

digital libraries are great and everything, but digital information is too easy to manipulate. that's why its important to keep physical copies of books. we should NEVER convert all information to digital.
Are you serious...

If your worry is information manipulation, then it doesn't matter in what the information is recorded, it can be as easily manipulated...Basically, if you didn't produce the information, then you don't really know how much it was manipulated...

The Bible is a great example of this...

Nope. We know the Bible was manipulated because of older *physical* text that show where shyt was edited and stitched together. There isn't a digital equivalent to that.

I keep trying to tell people this. Google search results are dictated via algorithms, thus, algorithms are shaping your perceptions on varying subjects. If I can control the algorithm, I can control your views on certain subjects cause I can dictate the results

Yes, I will argue that point to the death me...

Because what you are essentially saying is that we should go back to making cave paintings...That was medium used WAY before the printing press was invented, and books became more popular...

In fact, I can argue that cave painting was the original physical medium used to record information...

Are you saying we should go back to writing and drawing on caves...? I hope not...

Books are more convenient than caves, just lie e-books are more convenient than books...

Remember, authors used typewriters in the past, now they use MS Word, so technically, any new book you read today, started out as a Word document, an electronic book, until was printed for mass dissemination...

Authors today aren't handwriting their thoughts and ideas...hahaha...

Get real...

no one is saying we should go back technologically, im just saying we have to be careful how the information is STORED.

You're an idiot. If you don't see why your analogy is malformed then you don't deserve freedom. The advantages of a paper verse a cave painting are apparent while the case for e-books are ambiguous at best. If the space a book takes up is the only argument you have for e-books then you deserve the slavery that will come with your convenience.

I will not disagree with that...

But who is generating the information...? If you are not the one doing all the observations, research and data analysis, then you have no idea at what point the data the manipulated...

Think about the example of the doctor who claimed that vaccinating children causes autism, a lot people believed him, and many people still reference him as a reason why they chose not vaccinate their children..

But then a research team in Denmark studied almost the entire population of Danish children, and they disproved the claim of vaccination causing autism...

Who are you going to believe now...?

Basically, if you didn't produce the info, then you have NO reason to believe anything...But belief is part of human survival...We can't know everything...

im not talking about one person with an agenda, im talking about giving governments the ability to control ALL information at any time. if all our knowledge is digitized and uploaded to a cloud, that's exactly what will happen.

are you saying we shouldn't have libraries that have physical copies of books?

hahaha...

The advantages of an e-Book are just as easily apparent as the advantages of a Book vs cave painting...You are trying to dodge valid points with personal attacks...

1) NO author is sitting down and writing his/her ideas on a piece of paper...They are using Word document, and once they are finished, that word document is emailed to the publishers...

The paper copies of the authors' work is produced much later...So, essentially, the e-Book is being produced way before the Book...I am attending University, and when I do my research, ALMOST all the information produced in 2013 is first published online, before there is a physical copy in a journal...

I have PDFs of information that most people who like physical copies are only going to get months later...If you are really into gaining information quickly, then why would you wait until the paper journal is printing, if an eletronic version is already available...? Some journals don't even print paper copies any more...

2) e-Books are a much FASTER way of disseminating info...If you don't think speed is an essential aspect of information distribution, than you are not as smart as you think you are...

3) What about Newspapers...? Do you think if you read your local paper online, you are somehow being given the wrong information than reading a paper copy...?

4) The same people publishing electronic copies are the ones publishing physical copies...hahahaha...So, how is your paranoia justified...?

5) You DON'T own the information written in your paper books, so by buying a paper book, or you are doing is buying useless paper you don't need...Because the info is COPYRIGHTED...

So, if you can get the same info quickly and more conveniently electronically, then why are you buying useless pieces of paper...You already paying for internet access, so why not save yourself some extra money... ?

*sigh

Speed isn't an advantage. If anything it is a push. Look no further than what happened to music. Quality of information goes down, the discourse on any given subject can be controlled by one entity, and it's harder to parse legitimate sources from those with agendas.

I might not own a physical copy of a book but it isn't susceptible to being deleted from the cloud, being tampered with on the cloud, etc

You really should learn to write concise and coherent, since most of what you typed was extraneous.

So the only thing you have listed as an advantage so far is the space and money you save from e-books? Not very convincing.

I studied info-sci during graduate school, so I understand both arguments of physical vs. digital. Info-sci essentially is blending with info-tech due to the advancements of the digital age, but folks still preach the importance of maintaining physical materials (i.e. books, media, etc.), even if on a smaller scale. Relying solely on tech to house and store info is WAY too risky and costly. Tech has advanced a lot over the years, but we're no where near being solely reliant on it, especially when there are folks who STILL don't have access, while hardware or Internet connections can stop in an instant.

As for relying on Google to get you info, I'm :whoa: on that subject. You'll have to really dig through the results in order to get something of substance, especially if it isn't "popular". That's where places like Worldcat, OCLC, etc. come into play if you want extensive research (sometimes that's not enough...:damn:). Step into a decent-sized university library and you'll see all sorts of people in there, some staying until closing time, even during dead periods of the semester...:ohlawd:

Folks wanting that "Book of Eli", Skynet, and "1984" type of rachetness...:mjpls:
