well put....
would that vanish if the books were digital books?
So would it matter if there were no physical books at a library?Libraries allow people to DL digital books as well.
access to the digital books are limited to the same amount of time as a regular book and cannot be copied.
Fair enough. Whenever you're ready to come back and explain why a medium developed thousands of years ago is essential...i'll be here. FYI there are several piss poor "studies" concerning the benefit of paper over digital and well as i said they are piss poor at best in terms of conclusions.

i don't know.
we are living through a transformational time in human history.
the fact that we are discussing the importance of physical books vs digital text is a prime example of that.
imagine going back in time 15 years and telling people "yo...books are gonna be played out soon."
all you would get is .
now look at us...we are seriously looking at books.....BOOKS becoming obsolete as a very possible reality.
that shyt is crazy.
written language is one of the few things that defines a civilization and to see written language change the medium in which it is expressed is a huge fukking deal.
however, my biggest concern as far as libraries are concerned is that they provide information for those who are most deprived of it.
You can mark in E books and 'flip' through them in a reader or tabletI can't get on that e-book trend, not for the books I use. I need constant flipping, labeling of important pages, and so on. Only a physical book will do in those cases.

You know its not the same....
it may not be the same in terms of speed, but the 'feature' is there. of course it's not the 'same'.Not the same thing at all.
