Take him to HR. Or every little issue go to him and have him break it down to you. If he refuses to say oh you don't know either, cool. And walk away. Then go to HR again.

I would straight up tell him or his boss or your boss that you cannot be as effective when you are being micro managed to an extremely redundant point of extreme diminishing return and then proceed to give examples of such. The time it takes to micromanage someone means that it’s taking time away from actual work hence productivity actually goes down. I would gather examples and then tell someone who can actually take action. Anyone that micromanages does not have a lot of friends I can tell you that.
Not necessarily true. They might just be nitpicking you. I had that happen to me. But when they do I just slowdown even more, "slack off even more". Damn I don't know what I ate but I got to take another wicked shiit.

Managers do what the company want, in my experience. Going above his head don't mean anything
In my experience bad managers and employees are known to everyone but they do decent enough to stay on. Where you can get someone in trouble is to have it on record. Things like retaliation and micromanaging can be perceived as bullying are taken seriously by large corporations.

he’s stern and straightforward to everyone but he takes it to an extra step with me. i can see it in his face that he doesn’t like me vs the others and i used to brush it off as being in denial and sensitive but black ppl know when they’re being passively fukked over by “them” and what’s really going on.

meanwhile there’s literally a white girl in the same age range on my team who is never bothered by this dude at all. she just laughs and smiles at him

i move at a rapid hardworking pace mashing away and carrying the load of 2 people and he still questions me all the fukking time
Jobs hate hardworkers. Seems weird but they really do.

Leave. You can't change how he manages but you can change your environment

I had a horrible micromanager supervisor. I was there a year and was lucky enough to move on. He made everyone miserable. Everyone was hesitant every morning to log into their Outlook because 8/10 times there's an email sent at 3am bytching about something. Why tf was he not sleep?

It's been almost 10 years and he's still there, ruining lives with multiple lawsuits filed on him

If you're wondering how he's still employed, first it's a federal agency but he's black, gay and has a disability. The trifecta of if you fire me I'll file my own lawsuit

The manager is not wrong to expect more out of their employees, the higher up will back his play. They dont care if his workload being more, they will sing song something in the policy that won't have anything to do with the situation and that's it.

Exactly why micromanaging is a terrible behavior.

you can't change someone's management style as their employee, prepare yourself to move on and think up some lessons learned for the road as well. you're going to need to work to avoid these positions for your own sanity and career progression going forward - so do everything possible to set yourself up for success and momentum at the next stop.

also *never* be the last person to leave a sinking ship. when a bunch of disgruntled peers are there together, they can control a narrative and support each other. when you're the only guy left though? all the new people coming in will generally have to side with management or be wholly indifferent. and anyone who's on the outside looking in legit doesn't have to care too.... if anything, a bad section with high turnover makes adjacent sections in the office look better by comparison. other sections may *need* that dysfunction to continue.

i hate to be this plain, but never fall for this lol

if another breh has your back, LET THEM PROVE IT before you believe it unprompted
