this the topic of one of my superiors on my team. he’s the head accountant for other accounting duties but isn’t responsible for reviewing my segment of accounting tasks that i do. he’s one of the supervisors but not the one i report to, he’s merely the top personnel arguably on our team as a whole

i noticed he micromanages me a lot as an entry level employee. ive overtaken my entire operations as the sole employee after dealing with high turnover and rushed training.

in the 4 months since ive started,

the senior accountant

manager

and replacement manager temp (just yesterday) all left on my side of operations.

but dude still acts like im supposed to be an expert. if i mistakenly try explain to something he probes about that i just learned about 3 minutes ago, he gets dissatisfied and starts questioning my competency, while disregarding all of what i stated above. this happened yesterday and as i caught him walking away, he looked up and started to roll his eyes.

if i mistakenly explain something to him or confuse him once, it completely erases all the overwhelming times i articulated myself extremely well

his demeanor is excused as stern and that he wants his employees to be better by others on the team who are genuinely cool but i can just tell that he doesn’t like me still.

as my recent departing temp manager began to transition and teach our procedures over to my new, laterally promoted boss, we had a meeting that he decided to mediate about this and while learning more deeply about what our work entailed, he interrupts to propose that i start to add all these random unnecessary checks to my current procedures for my new boss moving forward that no one who trained me or the temp was doing before.

ik this is tl:dr and a rough write but i was looking for some wisdom about being black in corporate and how to go about avoiding micromanaging bosses and how to deal with their constant probing. i can see the curtain being pulled from under me

Bmore stand up!
Time to leave buddy….

Life is hard enough just being a black man in the streets/society… but 2 places you shouldn’t hate to be at are (1)home and (2)work because those are the two places you spend the most time at.

Home should be a place of refuge and relaxation… and your job, while not quite as peaceful, should never be a place you dread going to, nor should it be a place that stirs up your anxiety and gives you bad vibes just from the very thought of a particular person…

Careers/jobs arent always perfect but when they make you feel like “that” ⬆️….. it’s time to hit the eject button

I would straight up tell him or his boss or your boss that you cannot be as effective when you are being micro managed to an extremely redundant point of extreme diminishing return and then proceed to give examples of such. The time it takes to micromanage someone means that it’s taking time away from actual work hence productivity actually goes down. I would gather examples and then tell someone who can actually take action. Anyone that micromanages does not have a lot of friends I can tell you that.

fukk that nikka. Pop all his tires and hit him with the :umad:
he’s stern and straightforward to everyone but he takes it to an extra step with me. i can see it in his face that he doesn’t like me vs the others and i used to brush it off in denial as being sensitive but black ppl know when they’re being passively fukked over by “them” and what’s really going on.

meanwhile there’s literally a white girl in the same age range on my team who is never bothered by this dude at all. she just laughs and smiles at him

i move at a rapid hardworking pace mashing away and carrying the load of 2 people and he still questions me all the fukking time

doing above bolded would probably hurt his ego then he fires me much sooner lol. for the bolded he’s a family man though with kids so that’s more understandable if he doesn’t

if only he knew my proposition. ive always worked hard and been counted out my whole life to get to the point im at the same way he *may* have been also

i shouldn’t still have to walk on eggshells every interaction prove my professional mindset and capabilities to these people who don’t want to trust me as one of them

Managers do what the company want, in my experience. Going above his head don't mean anything
