who do you know who actually retires (20+ years in) from the military...and is poor?

getting out after 4-6 years isn't retirement.

it's like having any other job for a few years and not transitioning/preparing for another job....you're gonna be broke once that paycheck ends

THIS. My dad was in for over 20 years. When he retires he'll be banking THREE checks (military, state, and SS).

But, if you just went in for 4-6 and got out without a plan, you're just any other guy on the street; especially if you didnt' serve in combat.

I had a homie who went to the military after high school. He seemed to be eating lovely. He'd come home during his breaks cashing out at the mall, buying bottles, got the big body V. He got out after 6 years and although he's working now he's generally broke most of the time. Still paying off debt from his military days. He can't make moves the way he wants to because his money is always funny. He does reminisce a lot..sounding like a washed up hustler "Back in '03 I had it all....:sadcam:"

What alot of folks in this thread don't know
Sure you're making okay or good money in the military but ftmp
Your credit has to be right. You have to pay your bills.
fukk around and get bad credit and get your security clearance pulled,
End up losing your job.
Don't pay certain bills and you can be sure they're gonna call your command and the command will make sure you handle that shyt.

Ask @General Mills about those apt people calling his command on him.

One of the most frequent speeches my h gave his baby sailors was don't fukk with this establishment or that one who rape you on prices or interest or pay day loan spots. There's laws in va for that now.

Is that San Diego??

Majority....when im playing basketball with former military guys the stories I hear from either they married a woman who only wanted them for security and nothing more or they found some new dikk while they was gone for a year...

Couple dudes lost their wives in like 3 months after marriage cause they went back to their first love who they really wanted and many cases these cheating hoes got everything..

Plus u have a lot of guys coming home with missing limbs and mental health issues and some women bounce

Guys either on the streets or living with parents or other family members

everything you said happened

started as a crew chief.... wanted the easy job and easy money, so took a special assignment in germany.... in the mail room

signed up for another 4 thinking, shyt this is the life... fukking german broads, traveling, boatloads of money, free apt in germany

got sent back to america.... his job was now too full.... they forced him into some helicopter plane rescue unit..... first day... showed him a video of what he'd be doing

basically flying behind enemy lines to rescue soldiers who called for transports out of war zones

nikka had 11 years in..... said fukk this shyt and got out immediately

Breh you just made me :deadrose: your boy has been lying his ass off to you.....:dahell:

Ok I'll tell you brehs from a 1st person perspective as someone closing in on 20 (I have 14 years in). I originally joined the AF but it wasn't really for me I was in a job called Disaster Preparedness (at the end of the day we would train people for emergency and do chemical and nuclear recovery/response) I ended up getting deployed to Iraq as part of a WMDE recovery team in 2003 and 101st was our security element...The Army had more brehs I related to etc...

In 2005 the military made a program called Blue to Green so I joined the Army and got a bonus. Over the years I've had a few jobs and positions. Now i currently sit a 14 year MSG in 1st CAV. It is rare to find someone who did a 20 year retirement that is "broke" some may not be as well off as they wanted and broke can also be relative.

The thing is this it comes down to being competitive. I always went after though assignments even when I was in the AF to now being in the Army but at the end of the day I'm a hustler and I take advantage of the programs offered free tuition assistance, schools, being friendly with contractors, volunteering in any community I'm in, and making sure i'm in shape....A lot of SMs miss out on using thinking like the Thrift Savings Plan (basically a 401K) to its full extent....The Military literally has fail safes in it to ensure that a retiree should be at least middle income....

Times have changed but in the Army you need to be a SSG (E6) to be able to retire but I can honestly tell you I haven't meet any "Broke" retired person....I have met alot of broke dudes who say they were in the service but most times they end up looking funny in the light...

I can tell by some of you brehs stories in here that some of your "friends" who were in the military have just flat out lied to ya'll....
