Barksdales only had control of the towers for one year before the show started. Season 3. Weebey, Bird, Savino, Little Man were all in jail. Stinkum was dead. Avon and them didn't have muscle like that which is why he needed Brother Mouzone. They had to recruit killers for their war. They didn't have any legit muscle. True enough if Slim Charles had got the greenlight they may have murked Marlo, but them nikkas was sloppy. And Savino joined up with Marlo's crew years later.

Question, did any of you guys watch this show while it aired from the beginning?

I recall watching the first episode when the premiered the censored version on BET in January 07 but didn't again.

Watched it at the end of the year and by the time I finished season 4 I watched season 5 on a weekly basis.

watched it live starting season 3 i lost as fukk. had to catch up seasons 1 and 2 sometime during the beginning of season 3

Marlo "Black" had been a heavy hitter for years but they never really delved into that too much.

since the show starts out at the peak of Avon's career slowly going downhill as the show progresses, we don't know exactly how he got to where he was. however, it's not hard to guess. you got someone with a voice, a drive, and a vision of how to make money and run things, people will follow you. especially desperate, uneducated people living in poverty. assuming this is how he took control of the projects, he now has enough of a network to run a large portion of the city from a single location. remember he didn't control all of b'more. there were other organizations who had claims to different territories. there was no marlo (or he wasn't a threat), omar wasn't much of an issue at that point, little police interference and his crew were loyal (except stringer bell who was never content) and happy under his leadership. once he had control, things were smooth sailing until the events of, The Wire.

Garbage ass goons? They were certified killers. When you got the most killers you win. That's how Marlo was able to come to the top. He was a killer and he had a team of real killers. By the time the Barksdales went to war they were begging for soldiers.

The disposal of the bodies ...that scene where he shot Avon outside the fish market , four grown men in a truck a dime piece walks buy and not one of them holla's at her? Chris was VERY tactical, he spotted things no one else didn't. Like Mike getting molested, Chris knew because he was molested himself.
Chris always observed. None of Avon's season 1 crew were observant, just heartless goons.
