How did Alonzo Mourning average 21 and 10 with 3.5 blks as a rookie?

It's true! How many times have you heard him say if I don't get my touches I don't rebound or play D. Then he had the audacity to say Howard needs to grab rebounds and create opportunities for himself.

If Orlando drafted Shq today. Nick & Dennis would not be reserved to spot up shooters and then when you add Penny, Penny would be the whole F'n show.

Shaq Is An Alpha Male Who Demands The Ball, What He Has Over Guys Like Dwight Is Once He Gets The Ball He Knows What To Do With It.

Shaq Also Used His Size And Strength To His Advantage

How many other young centers in the NBA get the greatest center ever to tutor them and work on their game for years?

His development is the exception, not the rule, both he and Dwight came out of HS and got All-time great centers to work with them and help them develop. Even KG had Kevin McHale working with him on a consistent basis.

For the most part development is left up to the player, it's why so few dudes attend big man camps, even though they clearly need to.

I agree with this

If he got the ball, which he wouldn't get in this era. And he would pout and gain 300lbs and be out of the NBA in 4 seasons

I See Why You Rock That Avy Now

That nikka Shaq has said repeatedly if I don't get my touches I don't play hard, i don't grab rebounds or play defense. Dude was known to come to camp out of shape when he was "supposedly" happy. He'd gain 300lbs and rot away in this era.

Player development is a complete non-starter now.

Mourning came out as a ready-made pro from a skill-sculpting perspective. He was taught how to seal, how to catch an entry pass, post moves and counter-moves, he had a motor, he was undersized so he had to polish these skills to be effective.

The last guy to come out like that was Tim Duncan.

People like to blame 'today's game' for the death of the big man. It's not the game, it's not the pace, it's not the offenses... it's that players aren't forced to learn the basics to be effective.

They dominate middle and high school.
They play a year of college, and get drafted off speculation and potential.

Then they're thrown into a lineup, and expected to learn an offense, adjust to pro life, and compete against 27-32 year old pros.

When you look at it like that, really... most of them never stood a chance. :to:

We've had this convo before.

I truly don't believe the college game would help big men. The issues happen well before college. 4 years of college would not have helped a Javale. Wouldn't help Dwight either. Wouldn't help Curry eating himself out the NBA or Tyson Chandler.

I also don't believe Tim Duncan would have been swayed one way or the other.

In now the current college game would hurt them.

The game has simply changed. Mourning would still be "great" in this era. Shaq would be DeSagna Diop. Shaq has no moves besides bullying people and this era is all about the guards. Nobody would run plays for Shaq and Shaq would pout and wouldn't grab any rebounds or play defense. Mourning on the other hand was a defensive force and he could shoot from mid range.

:comeon:

Shaq had drop step spin moves from both sides and a baby hook, all while weighing over 300 pounds
