4 years of college to work on his game, learn to play big and to figure out what works and what doesn't. There's honestly very little player development that takes place in the NBA, especially as far as big men are concerned. On the flipside in College from March till the next season is basically nothing but time to work on your game with coaches.

Zo had this thing called an engine. It goes so unnoticed in his game. Dude could just keep going. Loved watching him play. Felt good when he finally got him a ring.

nobody peeped this but me?

Alonzo was just overshadowed by Shaq. Had he and Shaq not both not been in the same draft he would've been a star. A rookie big will never dominate like that again. These unskilled soft ass centers can't put up those kinda numbers.

alonzo was a star tho. look at all the all-star games he was voted into while averaging 0/0/0/0. only stars can do that.

one of the sensational 6 centers of the '90s.

The college argument is true, but I also think that the emphasis by the league to push guards is what contributed to this shift. I can't say I blame them, but the time for a dominant center to come in and run shyt for a decade is now. Anthony Davis is not the answer either

The game is just different. The biggest difference is the pace. Skilled traditional big men dissapear because the game is based more on speed and athleticism, specifically on the defensive side of the ball, and this forces the league to go to smaller lineups.

Nowadays its just as important for a big to be able to defend the pick and roll as it is to score.

Dudes like Kevin Duckworth, Rik Smits and Brad Daugherty would be elite centers in this era and they were viewed as second tier players back then...
Brad Daugherty was a borderline elite center back in the 80s and 90s before those back injuries.

Duckworth would beast today

Rick Smits is Brook Lopez

Anyone has equivalents for Duckworth and Daughtery'?
not sure about that

Smits was taller but not as big as Lopez and Brook was a better scorer.

:wtb:
In no era is Kevin Duckworth elite
:stopitslime:
Kevin Duckworth was a 2 time all star before he became overweight,
