I just wore beaters and asked to try on J’s. Put beaters back in the box and walked out. Key was to do it on a busy Saturday, Sunday
That’s funny cause I remember seeing a pair of dirty new balances in a box at the Nike outlet recently and I died laughing. I was with my friend and I was like GOT EEEEMMMMM!!!:russ:

In the 80s J's we're about $100. In the 90s they started creeping up from $120 too around $185 from what I can remember. The 4s were the first shoes remember really wanting, and the only ones that had them were the dope boys around me. They used to come to our backyard to hoop all the time and my steppops used to be the neighborhood mechanic. I just remember looking at the shoes ask the time thinking how one day I would get me a pair. We was too broke to get them and even if we had it they still wouldn't let me get them cause nikkas was getting killed over them. Still haven't bought myself a pair of 4s til this day:mjcry:

I know for sure 9s were $125. it was actually cheaper than Barkley's which was $135.

Jordan’s and Jordan Releases were a total different thing back in the day. It’s hard to describe the impact of having a pair but I guess it would be the equivalent of having a pair of hard to get collab sneakers today. You never really knew when they were releasing unless you had a Relationship with the store owner and if I remember correctly different stores would get them at different times not all on the same day. The mom and pop stores would always get them first and the object was to be the first one seen with them. Not many people had Jordan’s either at that time because they were considered very expensive especially for a kid so if you had a pair it really meant something. They also did not sell out immediately you could go into a store a week even a month later sometimes and find a pair. The only thing with that was another color way would release by then and the other pair you waited for didn’t have the same appeal. Great time for sneakers. People really didn’t consider themselves “sneakerheads” everyone just pretty much loved sneakers and you always knew the people who would have the newest ones

All this. I didn't even hear the term "colorway" until after the 2000's. And people weren't going nuts when any old color dropped back then like they do now. Hypebeasting done changed shyt drastically.

I remember when the first pair of Jumpmans cams out. nikkas was like :patrice:. But when we saw team jordans it was :deadmanny:

the best and worse times. The quality was so crazy if you took a Jordan from like 93 and compare it to now you would think todays are fakes.

This era Jordan’s = The knockoff/cornerstore Jordans from back in the 2000s. Same quality.. like you said seen the real/feel the real ones from 80/90s to know the different. That real leather :wow:

In 2020 money they were about 260$ and tax

only a few local places to buy them

I think mid to early 90s most jordans were 160$ in that time period, which is 282$ and tax in 2020

wild expensive

No Jordan’s were not that expensive. The only thing that costed that much were Timbs & eventually Foams (Penny’s)

I'm not requoting anyone so if they see it, they see it. Jordan's were usually 120$ like dude said... but the more he won, the more expensive shyt got. Money and inflation does matter for the dude that quoted me first. 120$ today and 120$ in 1994 is two completely different things. People are also skipping over the fact that the reason people got robbed, was because you could only get them certain places and for a limited time. It became a waiting list or line and they could tell you when they sold out from the jump. Comparing retro releases nowadays to originals with 3 styles is nonsensical because there was no competition back then. You either got the 2-3 colors in 1993 or you didnt :yeshrug:It was a very cut and dry sale. There werent options because they were the first run of the concepts. That dude posted the adjusted price graph, that shyt was wild expensive back in early 90s .... a pair of jordans in 1994 costs HALF THE PRICE OF A TELEVISION. This is when television was the centerpiece of your whole house. People can say what they want about TV and shyt. I had a bunch and some used ones. But mad families only had 1 or 2 Tv's in the whole crib until the late 90s, especially older people back then who didnt usually have TV's in bedrooms. Maybe I'm tripping too, because like dude said.... most were usually 120$ at most spots. But people who had a bigger log would price that shyt how they wanted and tack on extra because of demand. I also remember alot of places charging you to hold a pair in extreme cases. Working retail was wild back then because there was just newspaper ads and showing up in person. If you dont believe it, go look up 1998 when they released the Furby :russ: people were in the stores like it was fukking wall street
