Usher was bigger as many have said due to being younger. Up until confessions they were about the same. Usher caught fire with that album & is now looked at as bigger. After that album usher went back to where he was at 8701 as far as R&B popularity

While going 2 x Platinum is successful, those sales were just average for 90s standards. Usher was going 6x platinum plus.

Ginuwine spent half of his career as Jodeci's water boy, but even then dude was still huge. usher was a child star so he has just been in the spotlight longer. When Usher had that song Call me a Mack Ginuwine was a grown man singing back up for jodeci 
He could've had "more" mainstream buzz if he took the Prince role from the Cinderella movie with Brandy and Whitney...
