Well, can you specifiy what you think is made up?

"how come black men are the only ones who HAVE to have sharp shape ups?"

My point is, its not ONLY black men who have to have sharp shape ups. Its a preference of the person not the color. I am not black and I get shape ups on a regular basis and hate even being a day late. I know some others that can literally forget to get their own damn hair cut for weeks...

Who is expecting you to have a sharper shape up in your racial community? I don't know of any races outside of african(american) that do, unless they are actively trying to fit into the african american community.

I don't think they do, they just care the most about their hair.

It ain't that big of a deal to white people, we might get a cut, we might not. The world moves on and you don't have to look like you're fresh out the barber every weeek

Again I think you are making up your own facts, its all about the person, not everything has to do about race. Some white people care about their shapeups, some white people dont. My friends would make fun of me if my hair is jacked up, and I would do the same. I have many black friends that do the same shyt. My boy went 3 weeks without a shape up, looked like a little animal was growing on his head, we all made fun of him until he took care of it.

Thats a good question. I really don't know. Probably sometime in the late 70's and in the mid/late 80's it became the norm.

It just looks cleaner/neater. Even white people get shape ups not the front but the sides/back of their hair
i think it came with rap... you can see photos from the 70s and 80s with rappers and b-boys with the crazy hair cuts... and they had shape ups, cuts, and designs... you didn't see all that in the 60s tho.. black panthers wasn't getting shape ups... it's gotta be a hip hop thing.. came in with the boxes, steps, gumby's, 5 cuts in your hair and other crazy shyt

you can see sugar hill gang had parts... run dmc didn't have shape ups... but you see 80s new yorkers with the fresh shape ups.. had to be 80s

Breh im tryna think of a black person before iron mike tyson (1986) who had a shape up lol I can't. But yeah I think new yorkers defo popularised it. I made a thread like a year ago asking were the hair parting that iron mike had came from. I thought it was a black muslim thing what just caught on.

I'm one of the few that need a little bit of a receding hair line.....My sister and I have that Jamie Fox hairline

The thing is I've found a barber who knows how to make it work and not like Jamie's in this pic.......There are legit pictures of me with hairlines like this as child all the way up to freshman year of high school lol

you can see run might have had a shape up here..... nobody hair naturally grow in straight lines with a hook

run-dmc.jpg

this is a definite tho... not sure of the year.... but jam master jay clearly got the beard and shape up.... dmc might have one too

edit: run-dmc dropped in 1982... they might have been pioneers... seems likely... first nikkas on world tour... first on mtv with rap... first with a commercial... a lot of firsts... and they from NY.. i could see them being hip to it before even tyson.. and having the shine to bring it to the world

Black males aren't known to have long, straight hair as often as any other ethnicity. Our curly, short 'natural' hair is a trait.

You don't HAVE to get shape ups/line-ups. Get some hair styling shyt and do your thing. I remember in HS I rocked a mohawk
i'm sorry, but negged.
