This isn’t true

Krit tried his best to craft a hit and crossover and it just didn’t happened

Yep he was trying for that strip club record to break him nationally. Never happened.

After def jam stopped together his mixtapes as a compilation for his debut, that's all she wrote.

Combination of being on Def Jam and also not being super ‘commercially viable’

You can be on thag label and work commercially like Big Sean, or you can not work commercially and eat on your own, but it’s hard to combine both of those and have it end well.

Money on the floor

Addiction with saweetie

It’s another song I know he tried pushing but didn’t gain traction

I’m surprised it took a ny nikka to answer this

The same way boom bap was never going to make waves on a mainstream level than neither would that southern playa organ shyt

It’s not Def Jam

Not enough bass
and not the right BPS

What playlist would that work on within a club?

On top of that rap has never been a genre with every man booming with platinum every man rappers. Never undersell what J Cole was able to accomplish and who knows how that would’ve went if he didn’t have the Roc Nation springboard

Just because you can put words together doesn’t mean you should be out here rapping

are you kidding me....he did the whole my sub series :what:

and I've seen him twice in Manhattan both times sold out.

:dahell: you serious? I don't know what your definition of commanding is but the answer is obviously yes

When I talk about commanding I'm talking about voices that cut through and steal attention when you hear them. Eminem has a voice and delivery that cuts through.

Wayne has a weird voice but that shyt makes nikkas listen.

I don't even like Drake but the nikka's voice is loud and crystal clear, and it's a huge factor in his success

Now I think Jay has an awful voice, but yes it was commanding enough. But there are other factors that come into play. Jay had elite rhymes and production in his come up that picked up the slack of his vocal flaws. Now after the Blueprint Jay actively improved on his voice, this includes his adoption of the Young Chris flow which did a lot for him

1train is the best example of this.
Krit and Yelawolf was rapping hard but everyone else had better presence despite not giving their best raps.

This thread has been made before so I'm just gonna repeat

Above everything else it's his voice. Krit's voice doesn't command attention which is probably the most important thing. I found this out the hard way back then when I was trying to put so many people onto Krit and the main complaint was the "weak ass voice"

Hip hop doesn't discuss the importance of voices enough. All of our GOATs have very distinct and commanding voices. I always use OutKast as an example. Big Boi is an excellent rapper, but his voice doesn't cut through and command attention the way 3K's voice does. It's not just his skill, Dre has arguably a top 5 rapper voice

Kendrick's career skyrocketed once he diversified his voice(s). At one point I definitely thought Krit was better than Kendrick but I understand why Kendrick elevated and Krit didn't

I think Lupe's lack of a commanding voice has given him similar issues but he makes up for it in other areas

I also think it's worth noting that Krit's most popular song besides Country Shyt is Mt Olympus, and listen to his voice and delivery on that:manny:
I don't see how his voice is weak :dwillhuh:

He had the strongest delivery on posse cuts like 1train and way more songs than Mt Olympus

If you mean he's too country, ok I can see that. But breh voice way deeper than drake, kendrick, and even cole

Can you provide examples of what you mean? Cause all I can think is if you mean on his songs like bigger picture or the vent. Which wouldn't be what I'd consider lacking commanding delivery. Moreso like the more laid back cuts, but it would make sense if that's what you meant originally

To me krit never became bigger due to his subject matter and there not being a large enough audience for his style of music

Cause he's between a rock and a hard place. His music mostly appeals to the south, but his style of southern music doesn't really exist anymore. Tryna be in that dungeon fam/ugk lane aint really what young folks tryna hear. He rap about the streets but not straight up trap shyt like T.I., Jeezy, or Gucci.

Then the crowd he appeals to the most don't really buy or support fresh talent. So he has his fans from both crowds but can only draw so much.

I think he could've benefit led from a more crossover record like DAMN. or 2014 Forest hills in his discog to at least have that Plat record with some hit singles to ride off of.

But things just weren't meant to be like that :manny:

When I think commanding the first thing that comes to mind is Chuck D. I would say Pac and X and Rakim off top fall into that category too. I would say attention getting is different from commanding. And even with that Waynes voice didnt get attention and respect like that until he went on his mixtape run. Em was the whiteboy that could spit with Dre. Drake was the actor that was down with Wayne that the ladies loved. As I said in another post, Jay was a rappers rapper but it wasnt until he started with those Pop hits that he got major traction.
