1998 was so unique. You really had adult based entertainment taking over.

WWF and Stone Cold
South Park
MTV reality shows was getting really popular
Generation X was really making their mark and by Gen X, I mean Gen X, not the wrestling stable.

In 1998, he got as hot as you can get. There were rumors of a Austin/Goldberg unification crossover match...but McMahon was never gonna go for that.

Surprised so many of yall viewed him as big as Austin. I never did.

Although one day I took an eible and watched his match vs Hall the night he beat Hogan, and it's like I finally got it. Dude was built like a tank and was a badass.

I think what holds his back for me is him never speaking during his peak
In June 1998, Goldberg was as big as anything in pro wrestling history and didn't need Tyson to kick start it. But he did have a ton of guys lay down for him...when they kept obsessing over the nwo instead of fully investing in Goldberg, the WWE just dominated by Jan 99 from that point forward.

It wouldve been so easy to book Goldberg like John Cena, dominating for a good while

SummerSlam in 98 did 700k buys breh

they was on par

Goldberg never got a proper PPV build. If they did Goldberg-Sting at Fall Brawl, that at least gets close. Instead they did it on Nitro, got a big rating and got Goldberg booed

Since 91 wwf had done like three stadiums until mania 17. And they were very location specific like the Alomodome with austin, hbk, MIL MASCARAS and other AAA and cmll legends, etc, to fill the building, or wembley with british bulldog main eventing.

wcw ran the georgia dome 4x for nitro between jan 98 and july 99…goldberg was used to draw ratings, not as much for ppv buys

He was on SCSA's level for a time but it's hard to say accurately.. Yes.. Goldberg filled the Georgia Dome by himself but i believe SCSA/Tyson element had RAW beating Nitro in the ratings not sure... i'd have to dig deeper..

But just the fact that Goldberg was in the same convo as SCSA says a lot

He reminds me a ton of The Ultimate Warrior, once you took away the unbeatable nature, Goldberg was basically nothing. Although unlike Warrior, there was a more realness to the streak.

However though WCW being WCW, they had the build-up to a World Title win on a Nitro instead of a PPV, which was just a sign of how WCW started getting over their heads.
As both a Warrior fan in the 90s and Goldberg fan in the late 90s, I highly disagree.

Goldberg was more like a babyface version of the undertaker. An athletic big with freak athleticism that knew how to utilize his size around the ring. Both didn't say much and had incredible finishes to their matches. Both also pushed to fight Saudi Arabian matches in their 70s and 80s looking like athletic geriatrics killing their whole mysticism agenda especially when they open their mouth.

Warrior is what Lex Luger should've been. Both overrated, overpowered and pushed to the ceiling because they had a certain look. Moves were trash af though but they gave that fakkit Vince Sr. an orgasm. I thought Lex torture rack was way better than the body splash though.

He had the Georgia Dome rocking on July 6 1998, so what does that tell you

Here is the think with Taker though, he was a athletic big, but he wasn't limited in wrestling skill. I am not saying that is bad thing, but Taker is not a good comparison; as he could promo as well. When I see Goldberg, I just see that build up of crushing his victims.. and then once he gets the title, then what? Its like, "How do you defeat a man that cannot be beaten?" which is why I absolutely hate streaks, because once they lose and if you have no backup plan, then you fukked up the bag.

But that's just me.
