Somebody just got a 20% discount on Ohtani
Right but it’s a toss up if you’ll get front of the rotation Ohtani back in 25 or even 26. Still getting a reaaaaallllyyyyy good hitter though so it’s kind of a wash.

As long as his arm is still attached, Cohen is going to make him a rich man. Hopefully he comes back and pitches at a high level, but as long as he is above average as a pitcher, his hitting is good enough to make up the difference

Ohtani was the best hitter in baseball this season. What type of discount are y'all expecting? I think he still gets north of $500M from someone.
The Yankees aren’t likely.

The cubs will try to be economical and re-sign Bellinger.

The Padres have probably spent too much already to the point it’s possible they lose Soto.

Are the Mariners really going up to 500M?

It’s effectively the Dodgers bidding against themselves.

This happens every year. Maybe not to the extent of what Ohtani's contract is but there's always this feeling that "x player" doesn't have that many suitors and the player always ends up getting what he was looking for from either the usual suspects or a surprise team.

I do think the Mariners would break the bank for Ohtani btw. Ichiro was huge for that franchise. They have a big Asian following.

My longshot theory is the M's sign Ohtani AND trade for Trout. They have the cap space to make it happen and by all accounts, those two really like each other. Washington doesn't have a state tax either so they have an advantage in contract negotiations.

They could stick Trout in a corner OF position or transition him to first early and he'd be an upgrade at every spot. Both guys would provide protection for an ascending JRod too.
