Don't worry, Dombrowski will be gone in 2-3 years while you still have a bunch of albatross contracts on the books for 5-8 more years and no farm system to speak of.

If dude even played like half of what he is they would be comfortable in the lead wild card spot. Disgusting they need to give him a series or two off

:heh:

They must have been trying to showcase him for a trade before the deadline.

However, according to team sources briefed on the discussions, Rodriguez and Mato asked for financial and contractual enhancements for the pitcher to join the Dodgers, one of 10 teams to which he is contractually permitted to block a trade. When those enhancements were not granted, he invoked his no-trade protection.

Mato declined comment when asked about one of the enhancements sources said he proposed — an additional year on Rodriguez’s contract at $20 million if he declined to opt out.

For the Tigers, the failure to trade Rodriguez represented a catastrophic outcome, and not simply because they lost the chance to acquire prospects for arguably the top starting pitcher on the market. If Rodriguez opts out, the Tigers will lose him for nothing; teams cannot extend a qualifying offer and receive draft-pick compensation for a player who previously rejected a QO. The Tigers also were unable to escape the downside risk of Rodriguez’s contract, and face the possibility of him signing up for his remaining $49 million if he is injured or ineffective in the final two months.

An agreement on players was struck Monday night, the eve of the deadline. The talks between the Dodgers and Mato, however, quickly went awry. On Tuesday, the day of the deadline, the Dodgers worked multiple angles, discussing trades for Justin Verlander and Jordan Montgomery while exploring three-team deals involving Rodriguez that could have landed them a different starting pitcher.

To make such a trade work, the Tigers would have sent Rodriguez to one of the 19 teams he could not block. That team would have traded a starting pitcher to the Dodgers. And the Dodgers would have sent the Tigers the same package of prospects they intended to trade for Rodriguez.

The Twins were one of four or five teams involved in such discussions, sources said; the Rays were another. Like Rodriguez, Twins right-handers Sonny Gray and Kenta Maeda are potential free agents. Either would have bolstered the Dodgers. But the talks never gained traction, in part because they occurred so close to the deadline and the deal was too complex for the parties to reach agreement quickly.

The supply of starting pitchers was so limited, four contenders — the Reds, Red Sox, Braves and Diamondbacks — were shut out. Once the Tigers’ talks with the Dodgers began to disintegrate, less than 24 hours before the deadline, Harris should have looked for the best deal possible, even for a minimal return.

Some rival executives, granted anonymity so they could speak candidly, said Harris’ asking prices for his trade candidates were too high, a common complaint at the deadline. But Harris succeeded in trading righty Michael Lorenzen, a pure rental without an opt-out, to the Phillies. And he had a deal in place for Rodriguez until Mato, an agent a number of executives view as unpredictable, got involved.

Whatever happened, whoever is to blame, the outcome could not have been worse. For all the parties involved.

Harris is a bozo. :snoop:

The Blue Jays bats are cold af right now. The hitters are on a collective cold streak. They can’t hit, can’t get on base and can’t drive in runs. They struggle to score runs. Springer, Vladdy Jr, Kirk, Chapman, Varsho, Espinal, etc are only merrifield, bichette, Jansen are producing consistently and adequately.

Above average defense/fielding and above average pitching(starters and bullpen) are keeping Toronto alive in the playoff race for a wildcard spot. The offense/hitting has been disappointing and underachieving.

Hitting in baseball is a game of peaks and valleys, a game of hot and cold streaks so hopefully an eventual offensive revival will come soon.
