this is probably a once in a lifetime event. So they couldn’t justify the cost. But I agree, it’s fuked up. I know a lot of people without power. I have no water right now
I used to work for a utility in the SouthEast. And from the reports I've seen the entire power grid in Texas could fail.

Perfect storm when that states power grid is Independent. Which is plain dumb that they aren't tied to one of the National grids.

I'm sure someone did some forecasting that this was possible. But they probably did a cost benefit analysis and decided it wasn't worth spending money to prepare for it.
