Anybody else hear/feel that explosion..
This morning:hamster:

Think about it, though. Weren't these cacs a few months ago just bytchin and complaining to the high heavens about the imaginary "smoke" from the Turkey Leg Hut, causing all types of hysteria, when they're running companies that are literally causing deadly explosions and poisoning poor people causing cancer in mostly black neighborhoods?

The Ummah!
I just had Torchys here at the stadium and it was good. Last night my boy bought me back some tacos from Lone Star Taco and it was decent. Ate at some small cafe place today that was decent. Toasters Cafe. The aquarium was nice also. We at the Toyota Center last night and there wasn't much action around that area. A few restaurants but not many people around there. Surprising for a Saturday night the bars and clubs are in another part of town. This does feel like a residents city and not a tourists city and the downtown area looks fairly small so the outskirts must be where most of the people are at.

Mid town is where you wana go breh w. gray st

I heard the taste differs depending on what location you go to.

And since it's black history month Imma dive into the history of Southeast TX style BBQ for y'all.

- East Texas bbq is descended from the the BBQ styles brought by slaves and reconstruction era black exodusers who came from other southern states to Texas.
Barbecue in Texas - Wikipedia

- Southeast TX style is a subcategory of East TX bbq with the influence of gulf coast seafood and/or louisiana creole food tradition.
The boundaries of Southeast Texas barbecue

- Historians trace Southeast TX style BBQ the the food traditions of people from Louisiana who migrated to Beaumont and then Houston in the 1920s.
A brief history of Houston barbecue

- Houston's 3rd, 4th, & 5th wards were known as the bbq wards back in the day, because of the black bbq culture that existed there, and were important catalyst for integration of the city due to the large amounts of white patrons they attracted.
How Houston's Frenchtown gave rise to the 'Barbecue Ward'

When you put the full spectrum of AA food together...this is what you get.

Right, man, We was just talking about how over rated that white austin centex style bbq was, and now we finally see the truth. An authentic SETX style black joint gets rated #1 in the state by the PEOPLE, not some carefully selected choice of judges.
The 25 Best Places For Barbecue In Texas – Big 7 Travel

I felt more should've been on there like Burns, Gatlins, and Tripple J's. But, at least the word's gettin out there, now.

More research needs to go into Cali black bbq, cuz I know y'all do that out there. I imagine it's derived from these styles in TX in some fashion and altered in y'all own creative way.

Man listen, I didn’t know a thing about Central TX BBQ till I was an adult lol. First time I seen a picture of some BBQ paired up with cheese slices and crackers I was like “TF is this shyt”
:heh:

And yeah, Black BBQ in Cali is for the most part an extension of East TX BBQ. The only difference is you’ll find some places have Tri-Tip on the menu. Besides that there’s really no difference, same food made by the same folks.

The influences that made the food culture in Southeast TX what it is basically parallel in Cali, not to mention influence directly from there as well so it’s all intertwined. So growing up it was nothing to be at a function or go to a Soul Food spot serving BBQ alongside some Gumbo, Jambalaya, Po’ Boys, etc.

Maybe that’s why it’s difficult for me to comprehend how people put so many hard boundaries on what is and isn’t Soul Food because of growing up in a place where it all comes together.

@Supper what is the best burger in Houston? I'll be there tomorrow thru Wednesday for work.

For standard burgers with southern flare - Lucille's in 3rd ward.

For vegan - Green Seed Vegan in 3rd ward

For Bbq - Triple J's smokehouse chopped beef burger in Trinity Gardens without a doubt(I'm craving that shyt now).

lol CenTex style is so bland. It's literally just prime choice cut brisket, with completely random fukked off sides and stale bbq sauce. :hhh:

And yeah It's no doubt that Cali black bbq mirrors our's. I always knew y'all had them rural TX roots plus the Louisiana and Arkansas roots. But, what I didn't know and found out recently that was there was a lotta direct migration from Houston to Cali. I though only rural south AAs left. I didn't know a lot urban south AAs left too. There wasn't a lot of white violence in Houston like in parts of the rural south, but there was a lotta job discrimination and lack of upward mobility that motivated people to leave for out west.

I'm also interested if there's any lasting tradition in AZ, WA, CO, & NV as well who also got a lotta black TX migrants.

I know black bbq cookouts is HUGE thing in the bay, especially oakland, richmond, and vallejo where that white lady called the cops. lol

And you right I been saying that Soul food ain't just kitchen cooked food of the old south. It's all traditional AA cuisine that includes bbq and lou creole food. The emphasis of spices and common meats is literally the same in all of them.
