Brehs/Brehettes,
Are there any spots with live music around?Somewhere similar to the old Sky Bar that was off of Montrose.

Houston's night life is trash :yeshrug:

Elaborate? Being from the East Coast/Southeast its difficult to find places that play good 90s hip hop. The 2 places I found have mostly white or mixed clientele. Otherwise there is something for every demographic and music style. :jbhmm: What's your beef?

1. Downtown space is completely wasted, back in 2007-2009 the nightlife was pretty decent w/ Toc Bar and Butterfly lounge ect..ect.. but those days are long gone.

2. Segregation... the is self explanatory. Its either black, white, or mexican....mixed crowds are too few a far between.

3. Music scene should be HUGE, population has been steadily increasing but unless you're a big name (Drake, Beyonce...ect.) , people will not go to or support shows. Even with Day for Night Fest, which had Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar headlining, the turn out was SUBPAR for a festival. I am one of the organizers, Houston has a long history of great artist coming down only to sell a few seats and small uninterested crowds. Some artist refuse to come back here for that very reason. Had FreshDarkFest (which was 2 weeks ago) been in Cali, NY or even Austin there would have been a line out the door.

4. Racism...lets be clear here. We've all tried to go to that one bar/club and wasnt let it because you looked too "urban". Its happen to me countless times and even had a few bars trending on FB/Twitter because of blatant racism.

Don't get me wrong, Houston has its great moments when it comes to parties/shows/night life...but coming from Austin/LA/NY its no where close. Strip Clubs here are great but too expensive for normal dudes who don't care to stunt or parking lot pimp. Went to Oakland last week, was a hip hop show/beat scene show...bill had names nobody even knew but there was a fukking line out the door. Why is it that we can't get people to support local artist here?

I will say this, MFAH block parties are nice, could be really special if they stay consistent. Went to a few block parties this year, one of the most rememberable one was off montrose near Buffalo Exchange, but was ultimately shut down because of noise complaints from the cac neighborhood that was behind the spot.

:francis:

But i have faith, i will continue to help promote and organize shows here because there is a lot of potential and growth. but don't come in here and front like we have a poppin' night life because as of right now we do not. Dallas and Austin night life is on a completely different level compared to ours. Why? Houston culture has probably a lot to do with it...too many nikkas go out wanting to stunt, pop bottles...bytches out here seeking ballers 24/7...rinse, wash, repeat. Nobody out here want to party and not look fly n shyt

Night scene is kind of lacking right now breh. But there is Lumen Lounge, and Hudson. Most folks are hitting up 3rd ward these days though, Epic, D bar, Sugarhill and Faces to name a few.

Bar 5015 is a nice date spot, and their brunch on the weekends aren't to bad either.

My cousin promotes the Sunday Brunch thing at 5015. Nice little spot but I'm too broke to even go anywhere. :noah: Just a few more weeks and I'm out of training and can make some real money.
