I'm from Atlanta but I'm going to Houston on Tuesday. I'll be there for 6 weeks.

Any spots to hit when I'm off during the week or on the weekend? People tell me Houston is just like Atlanta, only bigger:takedat:

As soon as possible, read/scan through this thread, take some notes, make some categories, and then come back and ask this question. That way you can optimize your weekends and nights over the next 6 weeks

On the first page alone it's at least 6 restaurants mentioned to check out.

Bragging rights or embarrassment? Katy Freeway at Beltway 8 is world's widest

Bragging rights or embarrassment? Katy Freeway at Beltway 8 is world's widest

If you subscribe to the theory that building bigger roads simply draws more traffic to fill the space, then Houston may be consigning itself to gridlock of global proportions.

For what it's worth, we can lay claim to the world's widest freeway: The Katy Freeway at Beltway 8 is 26 lanes across.

Here's how that breaks down: 12 main lanes (six in each direction), eight feeder lanes and six managed lanes. The managed lanes carry mass transit and high-occupancy vehicles during peak hours and are made available to single-occupancy vehicles for a toll fee during off-peak periods
.

That 26-lane expanse earned the Katy a spot in Business Insider's post, "11 Wild Highways to Drive Before You Die."

Anthony Voigt, Houston-based program manager and research engineer for the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, said that if there's any freeway wider than the Katy, he hasn't heard of it.

"Including the frontage roads and managed lanes, I do believe that the Katy is the widest (by the metric of number of lanes) on the planet," Voigt said Wednesday by email.

A few other contenders come close to the title but don't quite make it, Voigt said, noting that the discussion had come up at the institute when the Katy widening project was completed in late 2008.

"Off the top of my head, the 401 in Toronto is 22 lanes at the widest and I think a part of the NJ (New Jersey) Turnpike is 18 lanes at one point," Voigt's email said.

A few other roads at the time were about 20 lanes wide, he said.

Some of the world's other extreme highways are:

- Pan American Highway, the world's longest, stretching 16,000 miles from Canada to Peru.

- Highway 401 in Ontario, Canada, North America's busiest, carrying about 420,000 vehicles per day.

- German autobahns, the world's fastest highways, with more than half of them having no speed limit.

- Boston's Big Dig, the most expensive highway project in history, costing nearly $15 billion.

- Bolivia's Yungas Road, the world's deadliest at just 10 feet wide.

- The Karakoram Highway between China and Pakistan, the world's highest paved highway at 16,000 feet

Night scene is kind of lacking right now breh. But there is Lumen Lounge, and Hudson. Most folks are hitting up 3rd ward these days though, Epic, D bar, Sugarhill and Faces to name a few.

Bar 5015 is a nice date spot, and their brunch on the weekends aren't to bad either.

Lumen Lounge on Saturdays, off Kirby. I'm prob gon check that 2night acutally.

Fox Hollow on Sunday night off Washington Ave. They got a "black" club and a "mixed" club side by side and it's free entry to either... but it can get packed and parking can be a real bytch, but females be bad.

I used to go to Hudson on Saturdays, but i dunno if they still open.

macpat right tho, night scene fell off the last couple years imo. i don't really bother goin out unless it's a holiday or my homeboys insist shyt is gon be live, in which its still hit or miss.

Social Junkie and Prospect Park are other good ones, tho more bar environment than dance/club.

There is some new lounge/club on Washington Ave. I don't know if its primarlily black clientele, but it used to be that Lebanese restaurant probably a year ago. I remember seeing alot of black folks there in the daytime on a Saturday.

Forgot about Fox on Sundays and every 3rd Saturday they have a hip hop night called Grande.

Also Diablo Loco was cool lil spot before it got popular and now they charging like its a club,

I mostly hit up individual events hosted by people I know or when stuff like Trap Karaoke comes though. Looking forward to HennyPalooza this year, last year was >>>>

I've tried it a few times while I was out in Austin but they opened up a Hopdoddys out here in River Oaks. Heads up its a REALLLY long wait at least a hour before sitting. But the burgers are great.
