Even though I have a daughter and have taught her over time to dress reasonably when going to school or a professional setting, I dont know if you can police how other people's children dress. Nor do I think it wI'll be a real deterrent to predators. But I understand where Erykah is coming from and think her rationale is balanced and reasonable. I said that using your logic that there shouldn't be a dress code at all and that the girls should be allowed to come to school in bikinis if they want to. I never said you did. Using my logic to insinuate that I think dress codes shouldn't exist and that girls should go to school in bikinis if they want is nonsensical; I don't take issue with dress codes. In the circumstance we're discussing, a dress code does not/would not stop/hinder/obliterate the sexualization of female students. Erykah is implying that if hemlines are longer, girls' bodies are no longer a "distraction" to anyone. That's not how that works. In a hypersexual society all you have to be is a female/girl/woman. There are plenty of girls who attend school in uniform with skirts down to/past their knees. You genuinely think they don't get honked at walking home from school? In real life? It doesn't stop because you're wearing a skirt down to the floor. It doesn't end because your shirt is buttoned up to your neck either.

You're talking about bikinis when it's not about bikinis, the article of clothing in question are skirts. It's an example of an extreme that really doesn't happen anywhere girls attend school and an example of clothing no one is clamoring to wear to school. Bikinis are beachwear; school ain't the beach. Do I have a problem with skirts? Nope. Do I have a problem with the onus being on girls shouldering the responsibility of male gaze in relation to their bodies in clothes? YES.

Maybe we should all go to school naked If your daughter wanted to go to school naked, would you let her?
