2001 defined 1999. Hot girl was a hit. I'll give you that. But it wasn't nearly as big as the songs Mel listed.

outside of the west coast, 2001 was a white people's album. same with the tour that followed it.

guerrilla warfare & ryde or die volume 1 were the defining albums of 1999 by far. one of my biggest regrets in life is not attending the ruff ryder/cash money tour. I was f*ckin up.

actually "hot girl" was a bigger hit than "ha" back then. people forget that "ha" was kind of a slow burn in a lot of markets. and sure, it wasn't as big as "back that thing up" and "bling bling" but it was up there.

2001 was a white people's album? Depending on where you listened to it? What if you're flying out of LAX? Does it becomes a white persons album after you fly over Vegas?

Oh - and Ryde or Die was wack to me.

in other words, street-wise, its impact was regional. the west f*cked with it like that, prolly because they thought it was gonna be the album that was gonna bring the west back.

sort of similar to Kendrick's chit right now, but on a much higher scale of course.

Yeah but they aren't hot boys.

And the its all on u's had great beats but that predates the universal deal.

I can't at all recall "we on fire". I'm gonna unpack my CDs and have a cash money marathon.

I legit liked the Lil Wayne cd. The block is hot. He had a few songs towards the end that are fantastic Mannie beats.

meh. Wayne's album, the beats were there, but he couldn't handle rapping over 17 tracks. too much filler. weakest of the '97-99 cash money albums by far. still dope tho.

sidenote: u have his 2nd joint? "lights out" had the best production out of all their joints. probably even better than the big tymers. they tried so hard to make wayne the man, its laughable in hindsight.

I do have Lights Out. I don't remember liking that or BGs follow up Checkmate as much as the previous stuff. And even you'll admit 500 Degrees was wack.

400 Degrees has the most good beats of any cash money album. The block is hot had the next most good beat.

Chopper city & Guerilla had less easy breezy fun tracks.

How u luv that vol2 has the best beats, and personally my favorite Cash Money release.

"I got that work" and "lights out" were the best CMR albums production-wise, imo.

too bad, those "lights out" beats will never get their props.

I don't think I've ever been able to find how you love that 1 on cd. I gotta unpack my boxes. I be forgetting what I have at this point. I know I sold some no limit and cash money shift back recently. The bird man album and the later Juvi albums.

On second thought ,you might be right about this. I think How u luv that is a better album than both. But beat wise I remember feeling like :leon: when those came out.
