You can't "Acknowledge" a stereotype.acknowledging/contributing. Whatever you want to call it. Its better than denying out right that its happening like you are doing.

acknowledging that "hood life" is promoted and glorified isn't stereotyping, its a fact. Whatever you imagine "hood life" to be is a different story tho. You can deny it all you want but when people hear the word "hood", black people are the group that comes to mind. Language changes and evolves. When people use the phrase "hood mentality" it has nothing to do with the origins of the word hood or the act of living in a particular area in itself.
When people say "hood" or "hood mentality" they are referring to specific actions or mindsets. And yes, you are correct that it is negative. Unless people are using the term to prove how well they can fight or survive difficult situations.
That doesn't mean that people who live there are bad. It doesn't mean that people should be ashamed of their upbringing. It means just what I said - language evolves and changes and in 2015 that is where we are with the word "hood".
As a side note, I am not sure if people saved grease during the great depression but it wouldn't surprise me. There is nothing wrong with people being frugal. Eating swine on the other hand is another story. But I will ignore that we are discussing eating forbidden flesh and leave it at that.

Hood life is just another experience. Like Tribal life, WASP life, rural life. It's not inherently bad. If you think it is it's because of white supremacy and propaganda that uses coded words to equate the hood with negativity. That's why I encourage people to say what they mean.

lets not pretend that most of the images that are out there of the hood are of rainbows and lemonade. Most people living in the hood are regular ass people, but its not portrayed that way for the most part. When most people think of the word "hood", positivity is NOT the 1st thing that comes to mind. Thats why i speak so much about how we are portrayed in most instances. Our image is demonized intentionally. Whenever the news goes to the hood, best believe its not reporting about the "regular people"

How did hood become viewed as a negative? Cuz of whites. All we did was take the word neighborhood and flip it cuz that's what we do. We're genius. We're resourceful. Putting foil on some rabbit ears so you can watch tv is hood. Grandma selling $5 plates out the back door is hood. Hustle man coming to the barbershop is hood. Ain't nothing negative about none of that.
