Homeless Intervention Program
Helping people facing homelessness find full-time employment, stable housing and self-sufficiency.
The Homeless Intervention Program (HIP) works with homeless individuals seeking immediate employment or occupational training that will lead to full-time employment. The YWCA has been providing employment services customized for homeless families and individuals for more than two decades.
HIP integrates employment and homeless services by focusing on incremental steps toward housing stability, while simultaneously working with participants on employment and training goals. We measure success in terms of both housing and employment outcomes. HIP offers:
- Assistance meeting basic needs: housing, transportation, child care, clothing, food and other referrals.
- G.E.D. and E.S.L. preparation.
- Access to job search workshops and vocational training.
- Job readiness training, including: resume building, interview preparation and practice, understanding employer expectations, developing good work habits and establishing work-related interpersonal skills.
- Job search assistance and post-placement follow-up.
eligibility:
HIP is available to individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Currently homeless—living in a shelter, transitional housing, on the street or staying temporarily with a friend or relative
- Able to show Social Security Card and photo I.D.
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- Motivated to find full time employment

Job Seeker Services
The King County Jobs Initiative (KCJI) helps low-income adults prepare for, find, and keep living-wage jobs. Our focus is on providing job training in employment areas that have the most potential for wage growth. We also assist with job placement and supportive services (transportation, childcare, etc.) to ensure the client's long-term success.

Employer Services
The KCJI also works closely with employers to place skilled workers in targeted industries. Additionally, it supports employers in developing customized training to address shortages of skilled workers.
Criminal Justice Workforce Development
The KCJI plays a major role in the county's Criminal Justice Workforce Development Initiative by providing employment and training services to ex-offenders. Over the next two years, we will be serving an increasing number of ex-offenders each year. Our goal is that by the end of 2010, 100% of KCJI clients served will be offenders/ex-offenders.
