That's straight murder. Their ZERO need to hands on that man. If you feel that uncomfortable go to another car or alert the train crew.
Also NYPD & Mayor Adams are to blame. They need to remove the mentally ill & drug abusers from the subway systems to make it safer for the riders especially with ridership increasing.
Homeless people in the subway has been a problem way before Adams. Didn't matter if it was Koch, Dinkins, Giuliani, etc. It's always been the same. There's no way to stop them from getting on trains. Police would have to gather them up, remove them, and then what? They'd come right back.
You can't put them in jail or shelters so you'd need to confine them in mental institutions. A lot these people are too far gone to assimilate back into society so you'd have to keep them there. It's not an easy fix but it's a problem that's been ignored forever. They say they're going to address it every year and never do mainly because they don't want to spend the money on extra police and building mental institutions. Institutions closed because they didn't want to pay for them and they led to more homeless people roaming around.
As for the people asking why no one stepped in the train was cleared out besides the idiots restraining him and the guy filming:
They were at a stop when the altercation happened and the train stayed there. Why no one from the MTA went to check on the disturbance is beyond me. They probably just said let the cops deal with it but they took over 15 minutes to get there. The train was at a major stop so police should have been close by if not in that station.
There was zero reason for them to hold him. He's no threat with everyone gone and the train is stopped so it's not like they had no option to flee. The cac was arguing with him and attacked him from behind. The autopsy will show the chokehold was the cause of death and he'll be charged and arrested. The other men helping to restrain him should face charges as well. They prevented him from escaping the cac and they never stopped the chokehold.
