They can repay him by giving his half ownership stake in the team
Since that time they have had no financial flexibility at all though. The only flexibility they had is what they created through the Durant sign and trade, and the D Lo trade. I don't think it's 100% fair to judge the two eras. They would have had to have traded Klay and/or Dray to have room to make moves and that would not have went over well... and we probably don't win last year.
