They don’t want their kids to have to compete on a level playing field. Racism is every white persons legacy to pass down to their children, to help them achieve a better life. Not every white person is rich or successful enough to pass down something tangible, but they can all pass down hate.

Although I agree that Asian-Americans don't have to overcome the same obstacles as African-Americans, racism isn't the main reason why they are more successful than us.

The reason why Asian-Americans are more successful than us is because you're comparing a group of people that had the resources, determination, and drive to travel halfway across the world to build a new life, versus a group of people that were (ignoring the "we were already here" theory) shipped here en masse. Even if you took away slavery, Jim Crow, and other policies designed to subjugate us, it still wouldn't be an equal comparison. You can't compare people in the top 10% of their race, to a slice of another race that goes from top to bottom.

There are a billion+ poor Asians in their homeland that are just as uneducated and non-enterprising as poor black people. But the 10-20M that make it over to the US are the ones that we are measured against. That's an unfair comparison, even before you factor in racism.

Asians(specifically Jap./Korean) generally surpass every other group of immigrants when it comes to education levels,income levels,etc. These other groups are sending their resourceful,determined, driven top 10% here also. How would you explain this?

This was my minor in undergrad and I would always tell my friends about what I was learning. Minoring in Sociology played a big role in my consciousness.

Salute for posting this. It's always fascinating to learn about the inner workings of the game. I get and enjoy that TLR is mainly the "fukkery" central, but I wish there were more threads about how the system works and what we as black people need to do in order to advance.

I respect the intent. I disagree with most of it though.
I think that Japanese and Korean families have always stressed education in their cultures...both back home and wherever they migrate to. Other non wasp group that has strong culture of education are Jews. They succeeded in the industries that were open to them in 19th century and then 20th century, but were under the thumb of American racism towards non-white people (and yes ethnic whites have only been considered white in this country for maybe 70 years or so) .

When the Civil Rights Acts were passed making it illegal to block people from education,business,housing,etc based on race,ethnicity,gender....these other non whites benefited much more than Black people did.
It was the passing of Civil Rights legislation that helped these other groups reap the rewards that our people marched,bled,and died for. This is why so many Jews funded and supported the Civil Rights movement. It was in their best interest to do so.

If you look at similar data for white women,,etc for the decades mentioned....you'll see similar rises.

Not sure about Chinese, but Japanese,Korean, cultures heavily stress education and entrepreneurship to their children. MUCH more than our communities do. REAL TALK.

Count the "fukk a book" "fukk a degree" threads and comments here on a forum full of Black people. Imagine any kind of nonsense like that on a forum of Asian guys. I bet you can't.

I said that I disagreed with it. I think the Civil Rights Laws had more to do with the advancement of Asian Americans in mainstream society than the things cited in the article. Once some of the legal restrictions were lifted....academically oriented cultures within America saw greater opportunities for mainstreamsuccess.

"Model minority" label was definitely aggressively pushed. But the actual progress came about once certain forms of discrimination were made illegal.

US was involved in public conflicts against Asian countries in the 50s and 1960s'70s..Korea and then Vietnam.
I hardly think that ugly stereotypes slurs or attitudes about Asians from the early 20th century "went away". They might have shifted from one group of Asians being singled out to another group, but they surely didn't evaporate from popular culture.
