Nicholas Taleb by Antifragile. This is my third time mentioning it.

For good reason. I've reread this book every year since it's been out. Black Swan and Fooled by Randomness are also worth it.

Top 5 I've read this year

Listening to mindset now. My 6 year old daughter benefits greatly from these lessons (lessons in this book i've read in other books).

My next read is gonna be either essentialism or principles.

Just finished Blood Meridian. shyt was brutal :whew:
I can't get into this book to save my life! I tried to read it 3 different times!:damn:

I should be done with Malcom X's autobiography in the next 3 days. It's shaping up to be my favorite biography of all time.

Then I'll finally get started on Black Leopard, Red Wolf.

Read Carceral Capitalism by. Jackie Wang

Its fairly short (like 300 pgs) and everything in that book is vitally important to look at, as a young Black person in the US.

The New Jim Crow by. Michelle Alexander is also good.

Fear of falling is amazing, Ehrenreich predicted so many parts of the managerial class's anxieties and shortcomings.

Smacked hits home, because I see the emptiness and addiction prevalent in the legal profession.

Schrager's book is the first book on Risk that is easy to understand for the layman, even though I prefer Marks/Nassim Taleb's presentation of risk.

Dream Hoarders is different from most other books on inequality because it focuses on the professional-managerial class, and blames them for most of the inequality. He essentially lets the 1% off the hook, and he is very convincing and thorough.

With the exception of maybe Squeezed, most of the books listed don't have heavy criticisms of Capitalism per se. Cowen's work specifically defends Capitalism, it's the lack of voluntary mobility of Americans he has issues with. And so, I wouldn't say there is a anticaptialist theme prevalent in the books listed.

Hoarders is a great book. It reinforced my stance that working class people often grossly underestimate the financial cost of competing with the upper middle class. He shows that the upper middle class has to give up alot of their resources and power in order to help the poor and working class. But he acknowledges they probably won't do that, as their interests have become entrenched.

Squeezed is a tough read, because of how sad the stories are. The book is filled with stories of people who did everything "right" and still struggle. It undermines the just world fallacy, and forces the reader to evaluate their own narratives of success.
