Schooling people takes forever; don't bother
I haven't read too many books that were good recently. before the wide use of the internet, people used to write books because ideas compelled or aggravated them so much in their mind that they have to round up a publisher and put it into the historical archives by having the message officially on print, where the bibliography is as long AF to rebuttal dissenters. you have to read in between the lines due to publisher censorship to figure out what the author really meant to apply it to yourself and you knowledge base. nowadays, if you have any shower thought, you have the accessibility to go on any blog and just post it without having to make your own website. in the age of amazon audiobooks on demand, people just write books with long ass SEO clickbait titles more as a hustle targeting mostly aspirational managerial people with the luxury of time and the patience to sit down with books because these new books just mull around the same title and subtitle over and again, make sure it's over 200 pages, summarize full articles that could be easily found online into monetized book format, where the whole book would contain and be summarized by at most 3 nugget paragraphs with the rest as fluff and filler that you can skim over. these sentences are barely written with any stance or conviction and are instead just milquetoast opinions and glossed over details that anyone can write as to not ruffle any feathers and to maximize profit in this cancel culture era: hire a stenographer to transcribe a podcast into a book or hire someone from overseas to compile and paraphrase a batch of news articles into a book, where the author moreless then becomes an assembly line inspector adding in their flair once in a while into otherwise bleached content than an actual writer. book publishers is still a predominantly white profession that don't screw over their own writers like the music industry do to their artists with 360 deals when they go on book tours, etc so rappers do end up publishing books and making that publication money. given how similar people listen to audiobooks and podcasts, some people gave up book writing altogether given how tedious it is and that the majority of people don't read books and went into the hustle of releasing podcast/youtube videos consistently for more attention spans but the entire hustle just wastes a bunch of people's time because they take forever to make a point or get to any conclusion

with that said...there are some other ones but they are more known or already mentioned
  • Life Is a Soap Bubble: 100 Ways to Look at Life by Osho
  • The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph by Ryan Holiday <- he has some other good titles
  • The Art of Deception: Controlling the Human Element of Security by Kevin D. Mitnic <- you can use this shyt to talk your way out of situations. nobody really questions someone with a hardhat, safety glasses, a flipped id badge, and a clipboard
  • Social Engineering by Christopher Hadnagy
  • You Are Not So Smart by David McRaney
  • You Are Now Less Dumb by David McRaney
i was going thru this book and the author casually dropped this bombshell like if it's common knowledge...the ending of this book is also really good

Three Magic Words (1954) by U.S. Andersen

some of this is common sense but these are the recent quotes I like

  • The subconscious does serve man and faithfully gives form to his feelings. However, the subconscious has a distinct distaste for compulsion and responds to persuasion rather than to command; consequently, it resembles the beloved wife more than the servant. -- neville goddard - feeling is the secret

  • It is dangerous to neglect your own affairs and to take an idle curiosity in what others are doing. We should all be busily engaged in perfecting ourselves, but take a kindly interest in others. Make the most of your disappointments by transmuting them into happy surprises. Transmute all failure into success. Transmute all unforgiveness into forgiveness; all injustice into justice. You will be kept busy enough perfecting your own life, you won’t have time to run other’s affairs. -- florence scovel shinn - the power of the spoken word...this is like the OG writer of the secret, but a lot more descriptive than how ambiguously people write things today

audiobook channels I was burning thru

I just finished two last week

Ride or Die: Shanita Hubbard, about black women's relationship with the term Ride Or Die, goes in depth on songs like "Doo Wop", and "Ride Or Die bytch", and "Black Girl Lost", I feel like I could have added a lot of analysis, the hip hop parts didn't go very deep, but deeper than I have ever seen in a book, for sure. She explores the the themes of those songs, and how it relates to her life, and cultural norms.

and Fool Proof: about American's relationships with suckers/fools/and playing the fool, and the psychology behind cons and fools. It's a really dope book, very insightful.

Been going throgh a big drought in terms of novels and fiction in general. I've mostly been reading books about or around litterature, essays and what not. Thoughts etc. Poetry of course as usual. It seems like I have more and more of a hard time getting into novels. Maybe changing interests, maybe lack of concentration.

All of Haruki Murakami novels/short stories.
Some psychology, especially involving introvert/extroverts.

And some Nietzsche

Did you read Kafka On The Shore and if so how did you like the ending?
