First off, :myman:

I like it but:

1. It's not for everyone. It's....and this is gonna sound strange....but it's like "The Wire" set in an ad agency. What I mean is, a lot of the drama revolves around dialogue and how characters interact. There isn't really any :gladbron: moments where you'll be on the edge of your seat.

2. Unlike "The Wire" I think it's over rated, and it's fans can be incredibly annoying. "Mad Men" fans on this board are mostly cool but this is a show where if you don't nonstop praise it people will assume you're dumb or don't "get it". The show ain't that deep where it's hard to "get".

3. To be fair I'd say watch a couple more eps, but it's definitely not for everyone, and the first ep is basically the series in a nutshell.

gonna throw my two cents in...

great show. it's like Sopranos without guns.

you also have to keep in mind that the time period they live in is also a character in the series. so much of what goes on is social commentary.

the way people interact with one another is very much a product of the time they live in....and it makes you look at the time we live in and why we behave the way we do now.

great show.

I like the first two seasons a lot but it really takes off in the third. I can understand people not having the patience to get there though, the first season in particular is quite slow and has a fair bit of exposition/scene setting. I really like the way they bring the historical things into it, the reaction of everyone to the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK etc. Probably one of my favourite all time shows at this stage. Again though I wouldn't go at anyone for disliking it (though I wouldn't bother doing that for any show).

EDIT: Wait, I'm not wanted in this thread  Have to post in a thread with Mad Men in the title I guess.

ive never seen a forum where so many people have started threads asking if this show is good.

u think 4 str8 best drama emmys is some kind of a sham?

and since all these threads do is turn into fukking flame wars i'll just add my 2 cents and prob wont revisit. its my fav show of all time but whether u like it or not. and i mean this. u may LOVE it like i do or you may HATE it with all your guts. but please, please just watch at least 6-8 episodes. i know that sounds like a lot of time to give a show your not sure about i highly doubt your gonna like it after just a couple.

:heh: at using the Emmys as any kind of yardstick for quality.

They gave Emmys for best drama to "Lost" and "24" and didn't even nominate "The Wire". So the Emmys, and award shows in general, are a joke.

I know she plays main dude's wife, but January Jones...does she really hinder the show? Is it a minor role or does she play a large part like Carmella Soprano?

She isn't a very good actress but I doubt she'll matter much if you like the show. Basically, she ain't gonna be a determining factor either way for you IMO. She is a fairly important character though.

She really only has to act either annoyed, vacant or a bit angry, she can do those alright. I know people hate her character but I haven't seen many go after the actress. This is the only thing I've actually seen her in I think.
