damn. this movie was good even the more I think on it. It made oyu understand that even ben foster's character was a ruthless piece of shyt, he was like that because he grew up in poverty, had shytty parents and was abused.

Excellent film. Definitely the best I've seen so far this year. Worthy of all the praise it's received.

It's a really good movie throughout but towards the third act it becomes a really great movie.

:Jimmy:

Writer of Sicario did the screenplay for this but this had way better dialogue.
Surprisingly funny too

This is levels above Sicario. After rewatching Sicario (bit of a way back) I felt I initially had been too hard on the screenplay because there's some subtle greatness in there, but this was truly amazingly well-written. It drops you right into the movie, the dialogue is excellent, blunt and sharp at the same time and more importantly just breathing tons of life into otherwise small bit parts (the old Texan in the bank, the Comanche in the casino, the waitress in the T-Bone cafe). I don't know if West-Texas is actually like this (it might be) but this world feels so genuine and alive because of those small characters bringing so much to the table.

This movie also solidifies what a strong character actor Ben Foster is, and he plays off brilliantly against the indeed understated performance by Chris Pine. The latter fukking shines in that final scene, perhaps even more so than Jeff Bridges. McKenzie's strong direction (good craftsman who doesn't show off too much but clearly knows what he's doing) brings a nice touch that doesn't distract from the heart of the movie (the characters) either. Very good movie.

What?

This year has been terrible so far. Zooptopia is the only film I'd give higher then a 7 of out 10.
I'm hoping for the Oscar bait pictures to be good this year, its really the only way this year won't be the worst film year in 5-6 years.

1. Moonlight
2. The Wailing (Goksung)

In no particular order:

Cemetery Of Splendour
The Witch
Les Innocentes
Krisha
The Handmaiden
Right Now, Wrong Then
Love & Friendship
The Fits
Train to Busan
In the Shadow of Women
Hell or High Water

That's off the top of my head, I know I'm missing a few.
