It is a multi-layered issue. Soul food is very popular amongst non-black people of all ages, which is ironic because I see black people adopting veganism. Soul food is being re-branded and is being treated like Hip Hop. What I mean is it's being taken away from it's original presentation and being repackaged to be universally acceptable. It's expensive food. I hate to see non black people making money from it.
We need to reclaim our food, music, and style of dress. Eventually things will be rebranded so much that they're not ours anymore. For example when non black women date black men some of them start acting like they're black. Its fukking wild. The narrative becomes our culture being everyone's when it isn't. Black culture is for black people and we make the rules. If black children aren't eating black food it's because we haven't made it important.
Shout out to Brown Sugar Cafe in Oakland for restoring the feeling. Black people making black food in a black city. God bless that chef.
