In my area.....soul food spots (very few that are open) tend to have crowds of mixed ages but yes more middle aged and older, but still have lots of young folks.

Its just some things I noticed about soul food spots.

1. Some don't last due to many reasons...poorly managed, lack of consistency with quality of food and service, etc.
2. Asians and other foreigners are tapping into the fried chicken, wings, seafood, etc. markets and even Chinese food spots sell shyt like chicken gizzards, livers, smoked sausage and rice with gravy, yak, pork chops w/ gravy, etc. which takes $$$ from soul food spots.
3. Fried chicken spots (black and non Asian owned) stay packed in my area and many of those spots sell fish and other shyt. Tons of young folks be patronizing those spots.
4. Sometimes good soul food spots be pricey for a dinner (+$10), however, the plate tends to be large enough for 2 meals.

Finally, like some said...some folks are eating healthier at fast casual spots like Panera. Some folks mainly fuk with fast food, which isn't healthy unless u eating a salad with low fat dressing. Then, a lot of younger folks like trendy spots and u got more foodies nowadays.

I think it’s more certain cuts, i.e chitlins and pig feet.

I see a gang of people all over social media on that food hustle, a lot of it being Soul Food(with a gang of parsley thrown all over it lol smh).

And of course you do have your health conscious special snowflakes who can’t wait to tell you they “don’t eat that kind of food”. But you also got a decent little movement of cooks, food writers, etc who are giving Soul Food it’s proper due.

I think Soul Food will be fine...in the South at least, outside of the South I don’t have as much confidence.

Amy Ruth's is good but the last time I went was with my girlfriend and while we enjoyed it we both got stomach aches an hour or so later :manny:

Then again we did go out to a hookah bar to drink and whatnot :patrice:.

I think the way in which Soul Food has been vilified by our own needs to be addressed in this.

I think we can definitely say the younger generations overall doesn’t eat Soul Food nearly as often as the older generations, yet our health issues persist...but somehow Soul Food shoulders the blame?

Not fast food, not alcohol, not smoking, none of that shyt that folks use on the daily, but the stuff most people are eating once a week on Sunday’s...if that, is the cause of all our health issues.
:childplease:

None of that ever made sense to me.
