Has there been any movies that were supposed to be TRASH but ended up being a classic?

I cannot believe it took this long to say this... Star Wars owns this thread. Movie was shytted on so bad, that they were GIVING away lifetime profit percentages and the actors in the damn movie was like :hubie:

From that... To..... 100 BILLION... 500 BILLION... What? Between movies, toys, games, licensing, tees, tv shows, books, conventions.......... how much money has that shyt made now? Endless

Honorable mention to Ace Ventura. Both of them... And Blade... Nobody thought that was gonna do shyt and it restarted all comic book movies
I was coming to say that :manny:

I wasn’t around then, but imma take a wild guess and say Star Wars.
it was a surprise huge hit and had a ton of production problems. good guess.

This is every bit of a Japanese B-Horror movie and it's made it's way into the Criterion Collection :dead:

this crazy ass movie :russ::wow:

got to see it in the theater a few years ago.

answer that comes to my mind for this thread is takeshi kitanos movies. guy is a reality show host who started making violent offbeat crime movies. his show is so ridiculous in japan that people there didnt even take his movies seriously after foreigners were praising them. wasnt until his seventh movie hana-bi won the golden lion that the japanese realized hes a great director :ohhh:

It bombed at the box office, only making $1 million its opening weekend and only brought in $16 million in the US during its initial release and it had a $25 million dollar budget.

It got a bunch of Oscar nominations and became the most rented movie of 1995 and eventually became a classic.

Now its on TV all the time.

Moonwalker
:stopitslime:

Moonwalker has value, but I don't know if I'd call it any kind of classic.

I would say Speed. When I saw the ads, I thought it would be trash, and reading about it later on, everyone involved thought it would be trash, even the actors. Then it was released, and ended up the biggest movie of the summer.

Yes, Speed was an unexpected hit but it wasn't the biggest hit of the summer.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
I can say personally that I thought Get Out was going to absolute unadulterated trash. I thought the trailer was a spoof or satirical trailer on some MTV Movie Awards shyt when I first saw it. I had no real interest in seeing the film. I think I was in the mall with a girl and she wanted to see it, so I was like whatever. I was in that bytch like :wow: the whole time.

One of my favorite movies of all time....

I think This one bombed more because it came out the same weekend as Forrest Gump....
